    ~8~
this coulda turned out worse than it did:
    CG: coffee guy
    M:

CG: hi i'd like 8 grande coffees to go please
    M: buh...8?
    CG: yeah. 8 grandes.
M: well, that'll take a little bit. i'll need to brew some for ya
CG: don't you just have it?
M: no...we brew small batches so we always have fresh coffee.
    CG: oh. well. whatever.
i go start it brewing. takes about 5 minutes or so. i'm sooooo glad he was understanding about it. but he did stare at me the entire time the coffee was brewing. i was doing other stuff (cleaning, whatever) and i think he expected me to watch the coffee drip and start filling cups the moment it was ready. ugh.
when the coffee's ready, i hand the travel trays to him and mention that next time if he called ahead, we'd have it all ready for him. he looked at me like i'm an idiot and said that he just expected us to have it.

...no tip, either. and after i put half&half in all 8 cups! *swoon* my life is so hard

    ~no ice~
so i overheard this on the drive through (wasn't working it today! *le gasp!*). a lady orders a venti iced green tea. we make a venti iced green tea. when C, the girl on drive, hands it to the lady, she gets all angry. "I wanted the ice in a separate cup."
    ...really? that's...i hate you.

    ~*twitch*~
so...i know this is america. we have all sorts of different cultures and people. different languages...i need a universal translator.
i had a woman and her son come in. he ordered, speaking perfect english. she ordered in english mixed with chinese. she asked for a hazelnut latte with not much milk.
...hm. well...what? i asked her to repeat it and she said the exact same thing. i explained to her what a latte is (espresso and steamed milk) and she seemed confused. after a few minutes and alot of miming, i figure out she wants an iced coffee with hazelnut and not much half&half.
why her son didn't ask her what she wanted in chinese and then tell me in english is beyond me. would've cut the transaction time in half. nice lady tho. smelled like incense.

so this is more of a coworker complaint. i just didn't really want to open a new thread...
i was sweeping the lobby and J and M were behind the counter chatting. i over heard them...

J: so i was at the exchange today and they were playing *band* over the speakers
M: really? wow i didn't know they had become that popular
J: yeah. i don't think i like them any more. they're too mainstream.

and he was totally serious. he didn't like the band he was going on and on and on about a month ago because they're too popular. he used to play their cds in the back constantly. apparently J's a music snob...

    ~it's not you, really~
i went to work this morning at 7 in a fantastic mood. i was working with great people, good night's sleep, ect. i had a customer comment how i was always in a good mood. made my mood even better!
then M comes in. M is a shift lead and while i'm sure she's a lot of fun outside of work, she hates her job. and it kinda...permeates the air. whenever i work with her, i get all sorts of depressed because she's all sorts of depressed. it's like depression is contagious or something.
the same customer that commented on my good mood earlier came in towards the end of my shift. apparently it was obvious that my mood had changed cuz she commented on it. jokingly asked if it was something she did. i just said i was tired.
i don't know what it is...it doesn't matter how great my mood is. the moment i start working with M, i just want to go home and curl up in bed and hide from the world. uhg.

Sounds like M is an emotional vampire. I'd recommend staying away from people like that, but it's kind of hard to do when you have to work with 'em.

ugh, toxic cw. Most of my cw are negative, but it's not hard to be negative at the library. But toxic cw just bring people down, thought they probably don't mean it.

oh, and the idiot who ordered the iced green tea, but didn't want the ice seperate should have the ice poured on her pants

I've noticed that I am a bit more sensitive to other people attitudes and emotions than most of my friends/CW. Maybe you are too. When I get around people who are depressed or upset... even if i don't realize it at first, i end up that way too.

You might want to try finding some easy form of meditation you can do on the fly. I have little silly mantras I say to myself when I am getting depressed from someone, seems to really help me, also, if you know you are going to be around person X (who makes you feel like crap) ahead of time, then you can try mentally preparing yourself... it takes practice, but it is totally worth it when you can walk into someplace, throw up a nice mental wall, and have a wonderful day.

Hmm, I too wonder if M is a psychic vamp; maybe she doesn't even realize she's going it. Most likely, it's just her attitude that gets you down.

And wow; that guy thought you'd just have 8 grandes worth of coffee sitting around? Wonder if he thought you were Dunkin Donuts or Sheetz?

From my understanding of an emotional vampire (or "psychic" vampire), one isn't someone who passively affects others with their poor attitude. Rubbing off negative feelings on others isn't the same as actively draining them of time and emotional energy with one's own issues. I hate my job sometimes; I think I'm feeling burnout after a year in tech support, and I suspect that if I didn't work from home I would routinely bring down my coworkers with all my sighing and swearing at the ring of every call. This would be an unfortunate and inconsiderate attitude to project around others who need to be a bit more cheerful than that for the job, but I wouldn't see it as emotional vampirism.

I hope I make sense; I'm 5 minutes from EOS and a bit disorientated.

When I was a barista, I had a group of around 6 that wanted 6 different frozen drinks. Bill came to $18 and change (I think, many years ago) and they handed me a $20....pocketed the change. Hisssssssss.

As for the music snob...I'll never understand the mentality of stop liking a band because they are popular....I can see if their music did change, sure, but if they only got popular...*sigh* A good number of my friends are in local bands, and they hold this attitude....I just tune them out when they start whining.

                      Not necessarily.

I don't get hit by those. If someone isn't sensitive at all or disbelieves strongly enough, they won't be affected. In my case, I decided long, long ago that my power to affect myself is stronger than anyone else's, so unless it's something pretty massive, I'm fine.

Glen Helen park is one of those places that can suck the joy out of me. I loved going to the Renn Faire, but I hated the thought of staying for a full day.

The fact that you've even considered that angle puts you in the "believer" category, which makes you more likely to be susceptible to such things.

It's also possible that rather than being any sort of "vampire," M could just be a broadcasting empath, and you're picking up on it, or you're a receiver. Either way, M loathing her time there would be a very powerful emotion to pick up on.

Do you know what the fastest way to piss off an Indie Music Poser is? Actually enjoy listening to music. I have friends in several local bands (one band is actually threatening to make me wear a t-shirt that says "official groupie") and I would be beyond ecstatic if they made it big.
