  • Your Call Is Being Recorded

I love that all our phone calls are recorded, it stops idiots making complaints about things which did not happen.

My supervisor told me this happened - (I had not authorised a payment to the customer because she was not entitled to one, I explained politely why this was, she demanded my phoneagent number which I gave her because she was going to make a complaint)

Customer - yeah, telephone angel (phoneagent number xxxx) was really rude to me, and she swore at me, and its unacceptable
superviser - what did she say?
customer - she called me a cocksucking whore. (I don't think i ever called anyone such a thing in my life and certainly not a customer)
superviser - I will listen to the call, and then contact you, what are your conatct details

*click* suddenly customer hangs up, and does not call back to persue the complaint.
Customer "why did you answer the phone if you can't help me?"

You see.. this is why you should ask for contact details BEFORE even listening to what "happened". That way.. if they are lying.. fire the customer!

A lot of folks try to dispute thier tow fees or at least get some petty revenge by calling up and lying that I was rude/disrespectful/swearing at them etc.

I've heard that conversation, well, one side of it anyway, before. Usualy while I'm up front filling paperwork on the tow.

      *Ring*
      -"Friendly Neighborhood Towing"
-"Yes, this is the towing supervisor"
-"Okay, what would you like to complain about?"
      -"Who?"
      -"He Said what?"
      -"Are you sure?"
-"Nah, that doesn't sound like Argabarga, you've got the wrong company"

      and hangs up.
      - They say nothing good happens at 2AM, they're right, I happen at 2AM.

Knowing my ex-employer, they will listen to the call and tell me "what I needed to do to make the call better.

But its great that the customer didn't win in the end.

Where do the customers come up with this rubbish? They might as well work for those sleasy tabloid fake 'news' papers. Or for one particular 'news' channel.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

Thought-assuming we are talking about the same news channel-if they are fair and balanced, why do they have to remind you of that "fact"?

My job records all calls. I like that for when SCs do try to get petty revenge.

you'd think the customers would wise up when they hear the "your call may be recorded" disclaimer. but then ... when do they ever listen to anything other than what they want to hear

though i did have one of them - western union - where the disclaimer was that "your call WILL be recorded"... no "maybe" about it. not that i minded because that made a lot of sense for financial protection etc.

as for tv channels... eh, i'll save my response on that one for fratching.

I think employees should be able to sue customers when they make up stuff like that. If the customer flat out lies about something the employee said over the phone and the call was recorded, that should constitute slander against the employee. I know I'm living in a fantasy world, but it's nice to think about it.

                        Y'know, that's an excellent point.

SC is knowingly telling a lie in a deliberate attempt to damage your reputation, and you can prove it. Sounds to me like perfect grounds to charge them with slander.

This reminds me of my all-time favorite thread on CS, in the War Stories section. Recorded transaction and saved answering machine tapes lead to an amazing result for the storyteller:

I'd love to have a recorder at work... or even just a little machine that puts a 'beep' on the phone line so that I can tell someone that the call is being recorded. There's been a persistent telemarketer who's been telling us stuff that doesn't appear on any of the paperwork he's been faxing us... I wonder if I could just tell him that I'm recording the conversation so that I can play it back to the boss' lawyer...

For anything to really happen, you'd have to prove damages somehow. Easy enough if you get fired, or get in trouble at work over it (cost future raises, damaged reputation), but if the workplace blows the looney off, you haven't been damaged. Except maybe being out a few brain cells.
