  • Lights out

I don't usually have customers complain to me about something in the store, but one SC did tonight. He wanted me to tell a manager, but seemed fine with just telling me so I could tell the manager. I offered to call the manager over, but he didn't want me to

He came up to my counter, and said he had a complaint about the bathrooms. At first I thought the bathrooms were dirty or something, and I was ready to call someone to clean them.

Now, I don't remember word for word, but he said that while he was in there the lights went out. We just had our bathrooms redone, and I haven't been in them, but it was easy enough to figure out they were motion sensor lights. So he was in there long enough on the toilet for the light to go off. Thinking about it, it was maybe 10 or more minutes.

The only good point in his rant was that he said it could be a danger to someone(though the lights would go back on when they sensed motion, so not too much of a danger for more than a couple of steps).
Then he felt the need to tell me that the next time if they went out again he'd do his business on the floor and have the manager clean it up. (He kept saying "him" about the manager, who in fact is a woman. And I know she would have a stock guy clean it up, should it ever happen).

Sounds like someone doesn't like our new power saving technology. Oh well. I let my manager know. She laughed at it actually.

At my store we have two sets of bathrooms. Single occupancy on the sale floor (one male and 1 female), no stalls just a door and in the break room area, with several stalls.

The restrooms on the sales floor have tow lights both on the motion sensor. In the restrooms with stalls, the light is the center. is always on 24/7/365 and the remainder are on the motion sensor. The center light and all the lights on the single restrooms are also on the stores generator.

We have had a few complaints that the motion sensor is actually a camera. Some people have been able to partially remove the adjacent ceiling tile just to check.

lThey never really seem to want to talk to a manager, do they? What, are they okay with going off on what they percieve to be a lowly serf, but they lose their nerve entirely at the thought of talking to someone who might actually be able to find a solution to their problem?

Used to happen at Kinko's all the time. I've seen people flee...literally FLEE from the store at the approach of the manager (which I always cheerfully insisted on calling).

      Just....weird.

My dad figured out a solution to this when his company put in the motion sensor lights. When the lights went out, he'd crumple up some TP and toss it over the top of the stall. Worked every time.
