  • Apparently rain = SC's

(LONG) I'd never be able to post weekly like GK. We get good customers, probably because we are a little unorthodox and always happy. A good team.
We've had some massive team changes lately, losing some of our most experienced staff, so we can't always have a supervisor present.
And then the rain came. We didn't see sun for over a week (very odd where I live)

Out came the SC's. Note, I am a super, and thus, wasn't present at these, but was the first it got reported to when I came in later.

For this one, some background. I'm with a up and coming coffee franchise in Aus. We're good. An older Aussie franchise, CC, I've also worked at, they lost it a bit when they expanded too fast.

The poor buggers were slammed this particular day, and it wasn't an A-grade team. So they were struggling along, two of the three doing milk. This is some of the convo I heard after the fact
SC (already snotty): That man ordered after me and got his drink first!
S (most experienced) : Sorry miss yours is just here
SC: Why did he get his first?
S: His was full cream, like the one before yours. We were just waiting for the skinny milk to finish
SC: That is unacceptable! I'm a VIP at CC and they would never treat me like this!
S: Sorry mam, but like I said, we just had to wait a moment for your skim milk
SC leaves the coffee pick up area and cuts in line at the til
    SC: Those damn kids!
K (slightly older, def not by much) Excuse me!?
SC: they gave that man his coffee before me!
    K: Sorry, but we're very busy and. . .
SC (interrupts): I know, this place is a mess! CC would never look like this!
    K: Sorry ma'am.
    SC: I want a manager!
K: As you can see there isn't one here.
SC: Then I want his phone number!
K: I can't give it to you. I'll take your details and pass on a message.

SC finally left after annoying K a little longer. K didn't pass the message on to the manager until I asked about it.

Poor S copped the next one too. It's shorter - and on the phone, which we're lucky to pick up since its normally only staff calling.

SC: I was there this morning and bought a coffee and it was absolutely horrible!
    S: Sorry sir?
SC: I want to talk to a manager
S: There isn't one here, sorry
SC: Then a supervisor, see my coffee, it was just (rambles on)
S: I'm the closest you got.
SC: Fine, I want a mananger, I'm in ALL THE TIME and this coffee was just HORRIBLE
S: He's not in until Tuesday. No, you can't have his number

S hang up. Boss said he didn't want the prick in his store then, your coffee will suck if you wait til ya get home. And my reply - if you get to kick him out, I got dibs on the CC lady.

My complaint was about a regular. He sits in our coffee shop for hours a day. Recently, he's decided to bring a book, then proceed to peer over the top of said book at all the young girls. Our old #2 kept him in line, but she left. He knows it, and was so goddam obvious! A not so regular girl came up to me

G: See the creepy guy in the blue?
Me: Oh, S! Yeh he's in here a lot
G: Oh well, he creeped two girls out so much they left!
    Me: Oh, crap.
    G: And I'm following them.
Me: I'm so sorry, he's a regular so it'll be hard to tell him off, I'll see what I can do.

I felt horrible, but I wasn't about to kick him out. Boss approved and said although he can talk to him, he'll need complaints to the center security to kick him out, otherwise it leaves us open for lawsuits and whatnot. Not a fun situation, though if I see S do it again, I will tell him off.

Oh, and the mouse. New #2, D, a "delightfully" loud in your face CW (off duty) and SH

#2 and SH were getting slammed, when a customer told them a mouse had run from the outside into the store. #2 trapped it under a cup, but had no time to move it. enter D, who decided she'd guard the cup, all the while talking in a voice the whole shop could here about the mouse, and generally kicking up a fuss. And no, she would NOT touch it. This continues for quite some time until #2 can spare herself just enough to ring her hubby to remove mouse. Seriously? 15min to fix the issue, and every customer knowing about it, including the owners parents! Unacceptable to say the least. #2 was told she needs to deal better, D was told off for being so loud, and irritating, while not in uniform. Ugh.

And a shorty to finish off. A night I was working. A guy came up to the til, and owed 10.05. He pulled out 10, got asked by K for the .05 and gave her an extra 2. As an afterthought he put his hand into our tip jar and took .05 out and gave it to her. Sometimes, we'd ignore this, but he was an ass. So K counted out the 1.95 and pointedly put the .05 back in the tip jar. Ooo, didn't he get huffy. Didn't say anything, knew he couldn't, but kicked up a stink at my end picking up his drink about how his $6 dollar (5.2) drink wasn't even stirred! (It was an ice chocolate, and it totally was but it isn't blended)

This doesn't even begin to cover the last few weeks with the new staff and whatnot, but I don't hold a grudge long enough to put it up here. And I started uni, while half doing #2's job. Ugh. Silliest week in my 16month employment, and I didn't even include the little asses!

i have never understood this "squealing at mice" thing

in my office we are mainly women and once a mouse ran under a row of chairs, all the women were squealing and refusing to even look, meanwhile i was full length under the chair attempting to catch the thing in my bare hands with no problem whatsoever.

I've never understood it either. Doesn't D understand that when it comes to rodents and food service, discretion is the better part of valor? :P

I don't really get it either, mice are cute. I might not want to catch one in my bare hands, but that's just because it is a wild animal and I'd perfer to not be bit.

That first customer is going to have a hard time dealing with life if somebody getting their drink before her bothers her that much. What will happen when something more important doesn't go her way, she needs to just let these things go. (Honestly I wouldn't have noticed or cared, but I don't think of myself as super important like she apparently did).

About the regular, wow that is so creepy. I certainly hope that he's just creepy and nothing beyond that. Hopefully everything will turn out okay with this situation because if he doesn't listen to you then who knows what he might decide is acceptable.

          .

what was so stupid about it was that this was a tiny baby one, it was so terrified that when someone (not me it was too quick) finally caught it, it was shaking with fear.It obviously got lost and just wanted to go home to its parents, and meanwhile everyone was screaming at it and frightening it even more.

Wow that poor little mouse. I worked somewhere once where we had a bird fly in and we had to try to lead it out, but it wasn't a big deal. We just closed the door to the kitchen and held open the outside door when the bird got close to it.

i also think they're cute; we had one 'visit' us at my old work-it was a feeder mouse, so somehow, i think it had to have gotten loose/been released from someone. i scooped it up into a bag, put in some bagel bits for it to eat while my shift was on, then took him home and kept him for the weekend. the shelter took him in; i would have kept him, but my dogs would have given the poor little thing a heart attack.
              look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

I agree. She obviously has no concept of some things taking longer than others. What on earth must she do at a restaurant if the person at the next table gets their cold sandwich before she gets her well-done steak? Or if the next customer at the superstore gets their video game from behind the counter before she gets her full living room set brought from the back room?

I see you have the same problem with a creepy regular that I do.

We have this guy for several hours every day that sits on the same bench in front of the same store. We realized he was watching the (all female) employees, so we turned the bench around. He turned it back. We moved it over. He moved it back. Finally we took the bench away. Now he sits on the next closest bench, but can't see into that store anymore; however he can now look-down the hallway to the bathrooms. He is very obviously creepy, but we've been told that, until there's a complaint or we catch him doing something innapropriate, we can't do diddly!

                  Grrr.....

The only good mouse is a dead mouse, and it better not be any where near me dead or alive. I absolutely HATE mice. Nasty nasty nasty nasty creatures. (had a bad experience in the McD's I used to work in...it was totally infested the last year I worked there...at least that took care of the cockroach problem...the mouse problem was solved by the rat problem...boy, was I glad when I quit that place)

Maybe you should revisit and see if they have a cat problem now.

                        .... cow ....

And then I guess the McDonald's will die, of course.

They tore that McDonald's down last summer. (damn...I missed it...was sick with MS stuff.) I wish I'd seen the destruction.

That place was rotting from the inside out back in '96 when I quit...(that's how they got the mouse/rat problem) I'm sure there were mold and mildew issues in there too. I dont know how it was able to stay standing on windy days. The drains would all back up when it rained, or if we had a really busy lunch hour and ran too much water in the drains washing dishes or running the drink station in the drive-thru. (you know you have a problem when you have to use a wet/dry vac to drain pop and what might have been raw sewage out of the floor drain under the drive-thru drink station)

I wonder how many people they probably made sick over the last 14yrs. I'm surprised they didnt have an outbreak of Hanta virus come out of the rodent problem they had there.

Now there's a brand new McDonald's in it's place. I still havent been down there to see it. I did get to see the rubble from the old store tho. Still kind of wish I'd been there the day they smashed it into pieces. I always had a weird fantasy of watching that place get wrecked.
