  • Yes! I will remember you ARE the customer so of course you're right SUPER LONG!

Ok. I am still pissed about this. Happened yesterday. Little background: I sell clothing.

Anywho, my CW came to me while I was working stock and said there was a return at the counter. K. It happens. Whatever, here I go.

Guess what? It's earrings. We don't take earrings back. Mind it, it doesn't say that anywhere But I always tell every customer I have because we have to damage them out when we get them back.

I explain to customer. She says same thing. She sees my nametag that says I'm an "assistant" manager, and says "no wonder you don't know anything, you're only an assistant" Grrr. She also stated that it was Colorado state law that I HAD to take everything back that was returned to me. Yeah. I want that in writing, but I keep my cool(I've gotten soooo much better as I have gotten older

So I go talk to store mgr. she says tell her you are the manager and you normally wouldn't do this, and that you'll do it just this once.

Me: Yeah, for the 400th time.

I go back out there, she has this nasty smug look on her face, and I begin to process return (I'm trying not to cry,as I just want someone to back up the damn policy I am so tired of giving in and being walked on...yes I know, never gonna happen)

Here is how our little exchange goes:
    Me:
    It:

It: (continuous smugness) See? You were wrong. I told you
Me: May I see your Visa card ending XXXX
It: It is state law, so you better get used to it. (Throws card at me)
That's why I'm on this side of the counter. I am the customer, you are to respect me and my wishes, as I am right, you are here to serve me. No need to argue as you will always lose.
Me: Sign here. (yes I was a nasty bitch the way I said it. At that point it was all I had left and I needed an outlet)
Me: Thank you have a nice day. (said nicely, but defeated)
It: Maybe if you would have stayed in school you would have a real job, and not be struggling here, as you can't handle this.
*edited to add: wtf does this have to do with school? I have 3 degrees, using none of them, but I am normally happy at this job, where I don't stress out over details, and doing reports and going to meetings. Kinda like skipping class or something. I just do my job and go home. Plus I get to look at pretty colors all day, and hellooo? Discount!!!!!
I just needed to get this off my chest. Feel better, but I'm gonna go chug some Starbucks and I'll be ok.

Maybe you should go back to school, get a psych degree, and counsel her on her GIANT NEED FOR CONTROL. Even if she had been right, there was no reason to insult you personally on top of the other abuse. She's projecting onto you because someone, somewhere has mentally raped her. It's sad, really. And yet, I seethe with rage reading your post.

Its things like this that make me wonder why stores have any rules in the first place - the higher-ups just break them, so why even bother?

Honestly, you should just told her "You know, state law also states that we have the right to refuse service to anyone. So, as you've just insulted me, I invite you shop elsewhere. I don't want your business. Goodbye."

Wow, what a bitch. I bet she was hell on "loser" school mates in H.S.

I know that no one can take back earrings in TX (unless it changed recently) because of hygiene laws. I see signs for this at a lot of stores, even flea markets.

Good answer! Wish I would have thought of that.

You know, Sheldonrs, I have laughed out loud at more of your posts than all other posts on here combined.

Sometimes, I don't even have to look to see who made the post.

                  Geeze.

Anyways, I guaran-damn-tee if you hadn't told her the return policy on earrings, you'd have never seen her again.

It never fails to amaze me the legnths and depths to which stupid people will go to feel important.

What a twat. I give you props for not losing your shit on her. I know I wouldn't have lasted 2 seconds without going off on her bitchy ass. Bitches like her are the reason why I'm not a cashier anymore.

As an assistant, do you have any "real" authority? I don't want you to get in trouble, but if you're in a position to make decisions regarding customers, I'd have denied the return the moment she started being a total bitch. Unfortunately a lot of retail stores don't empower their employees and rely on spineless managers.

She was a bitch and deserved some harsh treatment. I'm sorry she got to you. It happens and I HATE people like that and only hope that, someday, karma will tie her down and take a great big dump on her head!

I would have told her I was the one of the managers and nope can't return it.

Since you had to return it your manager should have come up and did the return.

When I am the MOD and I do override something, I go up to the customer and tell them my associate is correct in the policy and I take over the transaction.

If the store manager is going to grant an exception to policy, the store manager is going to be the one processing the return. That way it is the store manager's ass if somebody higher up notices the return and decides to question it.

And I will be taking a break so that I do not get tempted to pull the SC's spine out her mouth or her ass, whichever is more painful.

I wish it was that easy. Never happens. She was too busy.

The only perks to being an assistant is I get vacation, and health insurance, a few extra bucks. Methinks I am going to resign as assistant, and go back to an associate. I love money though. Then I can go harass the manager and drop this b.s. drama
