  • I Want the REAL Manager!!

I hate how no matter how much I explain to people that I handle ALL operations of the branch, they never seem to realize that also includes any fee refunds...

SC: I want to talk to you about my account.
M: Ok, let me take a look.
SC: I got $140 in fees and I want them all back.
M: Well, since I refunded you last week as a courtesy, unfortunately, I cannot refund you anymore.
SC: This is bull****. Give me those f****** fees back... NOW!!!
M: No, I'm sorry. You continually wrote checks when you had $1 in your account.
SC: Wait, you're only the assistant manager, I want to speak to the REAL manager.
M: He handles business development sir, he goes and gets business accounts. He doesn't handle anything like this and cannot make any decisions on this. Not to mention, he isn't here because he is out handling BD.
    SC: You're a f****** liar.
M: I can assure you, he isn't here. I'll leave him a message to call you.

I usually don't like doing that because it makes me feel like I'm passing the buck... But it was either that, or I would've responded in a way that probably would've cost me my job.

Sure enough though, the manager told him that it was my call on the fee refunds.

This is why I'm a huge advocate for them changing the branch manager title to "Business Development Officer" or something like that and just having us be the Branch Manager, or even something like Operations Manager or something along those lines.

Why is he called the branch manager if his job is not to manage the branch?

I'm surprised your not a VP. Several banks, that I use to work with, hand the title out like candy. Half the IT staff of a New York based bank, were VPs.

I always love when someone insists on speaking with a manager when they are having a problem with a loan. The managers have no time to do loans. They are trained, sure, but without doing them from day to day, if there is a problem with a loan the manager is most likely going to have to come right back to one of the loan officers to find out how to fix it. If it's something more complicated than we can fix, then it's going to require a call to either IT or operations over at corporate...exactly the same call whether you have a manager or a loan officer making it.

So, you can wait no time at all and allow me to go over the issue and fix it, or you can wait 15-20 minutes for the manager to get done with the cash audit she's currently working on, and then have her come to me (if I'm still available) to fix your problem.

Many of the branch managers are AVPs. Unfortunately, they don't give them to the ABMs.
