  • Some people are just in their own world.

I'm at home when I get a call from the cops telling me that the store has been broken into and I need to be there.

They didn't get too much, the till and $7?? dollars. Fortunately we spent a lot on Friday.

After a while me and coworker and her boyfriend are dealing with the situation, cleaning up, boarding up the window, etc.

    The lights are off.

It is before our posted opening time.

The neon "open" sign is off.

The plastic flip sign has the closed side facing outward.

    You know what happens next...

Some asshole just mozies in like it is a normal day.

Now I know why those sawhorse like things they put around open manholes have flashing lights.

    Jeez.

When I worked closing shifts at Hardee's I couldn't tell you how many times we would turn out the lights, lock the doors, and start walking out to our cars...

...and have somebody push through our little group

      ...walk up to the door

...pull hard on the locked door

...carefully study the whole "no lights, locked door" situation

...and then turn to our little group and ask, "Are you guys closed," with a comically-baffled look on his or her face.

Bonus points for the appearance of a poutypuss face, a petulant, "Well I never heard of a Hardee's that closed!" Followed by the inevitable expectant look, as they wait for the crushing, rational logic of that position to save the day, and force us to unlock the doors, turn on the lights, and make them a cheeseburger.

      That's so cute!

Our weekly truck shipments sometimes come before we actually open. The only open door of our entire building is the big sliding receiving door. As always, the truck driver calls a number to confirm he's at his stop, this takes a few minutes. During that time, the door is left open and we wait for the driver to finish his call.

About a year ago, while we were waiting, a man walks in through the door and proceeds to act as if he's going to shop. Obviously, with me and two managers there, he didn't get very far. Where the hell did you get off thinking you could shop in the warehouse before opening hours, sir?

This happens so many times that our crew doesn't even stop to say anything anymore. We just keep walking like we never heard anything and hope that the person is smart enough to figure it out on their own.

It makes you wonder if those "looters" after Katrina were just really clueless shoppers.

He came through the receiving door? To shop?! Coming when y'all are closed is one thing, but the receiving door?!

              Yep.

Off limit areas do not apply to customers it seems.

There have been several times at my work and other peoples' work where I've seen customers trying to go into the manager's office, the pharmacy area, the warehouse, behind counters, etc. And, it's always with this "How dare you not allow me in this area" look on the face.

Just like Juggler said. Some people are just in their own world.

I get exactly the reverse, particularly because of the time I work 5 PM to 1 AM is absolutely dead, and, on ocassion, there will be a manager and a cashier and myself standing around, waiting for their shifts to run out, and for customers to come up, so, we're usually standing around, shooting the breeze (Take that! You mother-lovin' Breeze!), and I'll get fifty people coming up to me to ask, "Are you guys open?"
M: "Did you walk in the door?"
                "Yes."
                M: "Are the lights on?"
                "Yes..."
M: "Does the Pope shit in the woods?"
                "I don't know..."
M: "So then, the answer you're looking for is...?"
                "Yes...?"
                "I call murder on that!"

OMG ROFLMAO!! THE BATHROOMS!! "Hey, why do y'all keep the toilet paper all locked up in that little round cage?" I'm just imagining it.
SC: "Are you new or something?"
Me: "Yes. Your planet is very backwards I hope you realize."
