  • How Exactly Is That Supposed to Work?

So you call me up because you've lost your software and you serial number and think I can look it up for you.

No problem. We do that all the time. If you registered your software serial number with us, we'll just look up your name or other contact information and see which serial number is linked to it...

Oh. You didn't use your own name and address to register?

And you don't remember what fake name and address you used?

Yeah. That's not going to work.

    Yes. I'm sure.

    Quite sure.

    Why not?

If you can't tell me what I'm looking for, how am I supposed to find it?

What's that? I just should be able to find it?

Oh, good. Maybe you can find my ring.

I lost it in 1996. I'm not going to tell you what it looks like or where I was when I lost it. But you should be able to find it.

Yes. I've just given you an impossible task. Kind of like the one you've given me.

    So what now, you say?

You mentioned that the software was given to you by [agency] in [state]. Perhaps, if you're very lucky, [agency] recorded which serial number they gave you and can look it up.

Provided, of course, that you used your real name when applying for the software.

OK. I only thought that last sentence.
The best karma is letting a jerk bash himself senseless on the wall of your polite indifference.

The stupid is strong with this one.
