  • I HATE you

Seriously, if you don't like the self check lanes, do NOT come into the store after 10 PM, and spend an hour shopping, then come to the self check with a massively overflowing basket, and your two little children who can't keep their hands to themselves. Particularly if you're not going to keep a close eye on them. When the younger one decides to start scanning half of your purchase on a free register, STOP him! I suspended the transaction after you stopped him, and temporarily closed the lane so he couldn't do more.
Also: yes, my fingernails are blue, nicely spotted children. I've made no overt gesture toward you, why are you so freaked out? And... suddenly, keeping your distance...?
Back to mother: The only reason you're able to do anything when you give your child the item, he bags it, and then removes the bag and sets it on the floor, is because I KEEP CLEARING the errors!

ugh, why oh why do people insist on using self check outs when they don't lik them and don't want to use them properly.

is it too hard to realise that an item you are purchasing will need ID, or you have your own bags which are too heavy for the bag holder area and go to a regular register?

I'll admit that the first time I used a self check out I was alittle confused, but I followed the instructions and never had a problem

CW: So what exactly do you do in retentions?

I am always snapping at my children when they start messing me up on the Uscan. Probably why I rarely ever take them with me. I hate going to the nearest market on Saturday nights. They shut down all manned registers after nine and there is always the Saturday night rush that lasts until about midnight. Most of the people can't figure out the Uscans and the lines back way up.

But then I sometimes have to do my big shopping later in the evening, and I will never take a full cart through the Uscan, so I have to wait up to 30 minutes in line for the single manned register.PITA

But then you get to read all of the magazines while you wait!

see, that's when you stop clearing the errors. and when she complains, tell her that it's her kids fault. maybe then she'd get a clue

Did that to a guy today who had humongous headphones on today, as he kept bagging items and putting the bagged item into his cart, giving the sensor NO time to pick up on the weight addition.

I always get stuck behind the people who are trying to cheat the store out of something. The expensive bread rolls they picked up? No, the input says that they're the cheap, few pence each variety. The fact that they're quickly stuffing them into the bag, and trying to block the screen with their bodies means nothing! Nothing!

That, and the people with a full basket, when the proper lanes are open. It just seems a bit strange, and they keep a checkout occupied for ages, which is annoying when there are only four self-checkouts, and one is broken on any given day.

                That's why I don't go anywhere near the self-checkouts.

Towards closing time, your store only has SCOs open, right? No staffed registers (other than you supervising SCOs)?

Point I'm getting towards is that I never use SCOs unless I only have a dozen or fewer items. Any experienced clerk will be able to scan and bag my items in less than 1/4 of the time I can do it myself, cause they do it all day and generally speaking are good at their jobs.

In my defense, I could probably check them into a hotel faster than they could themselves. Probably a tie on getting police to haul someone off the property though

I get that happening a lot in the store I shop at as well, but it's because they've usually got just one or two cashiers in the "proper" lanes, so the lines are going to be long no matter where you check-out.

also bear in mind that when I'm at an SCO that I don't really care about how fast I scan, just that I get my stuff done (Unless I'm in a real rush)

Wheras most clerk's are not only encouraged to scan as fast as possible, quite a few companies check your scan speeds, compare them, reward the fastest, and some even discipline the slowest.
