Just recently we've had a LOT of products dumped by customers in the freezers. Its dead easy to do, because our freezers are a glass door up top and a well down below, they just toss them in the well.
The thing is, we cant sell this shit once its frozen! Similarly, we cant sell frozen stuff once its thawed out! Its not like we're gonna go refreeze it and hope for the best!
The classic is fresh fish being dumped on top of the frozen fish, where they have realised the frozen fish is actually cheaper after already having picked up the fresh fish. But now we have to loose the value of the expensive fresh fish! Yes, its going IN THE TRASH! For gods sake, we're only a 10,000sqft store, please take it back to the nearest fridge! Its not far! Dump it in the beer fridge on the way to the checkout! Anything!
Fresh pizzas on top of frozen pizzas, fresh ready meals on top of frozen ready meals.
The thing I dont get is, doesn't everyone know basics like "do not refreeze" and that "suitable for HOME freezing" doesnt mean you can try it in the store! These jerks KNOW we loose money on it, but they dont care. Its not their money.
Every morning I find about 4 products that just go straight in the bin.
What would help, in my opinion, is having the freezers BEFORE the chilled area. Because they'd pick up their cheap frozen shit before they get to the chillers. Problem solved. Or I could try to persuade people to walk around the store the wrong way
Or if I catch someone dumping, I'll go shut them in the frozen coldroom, see how they like it
