Okay, today was basically the fallout from yesterday's shitestorm: http://www.customerssuck.com/board/s...ad.php?t=63264
These all happened in one day!
I get to work, and before we open at 10, we spend about half an hour putting out stock that was not put out the day before (due to yesterday's shenanagins, there's about 6 full trollies!) So, it rolls around to 10 o'clock and the head cashier and I open the doors and try to put the baskets outside.
Note I said try.
For as soon as we opened the doors, all the customers who had been hanging around like vultures since about 9:30 swarmed through, knocking me and the head cashier to the side as though we were invisible. By the time we finally got the baskets outside, a few of the pushing throng were already stood at the till complaining that there was no cashier there to serve them immediately!
What the hell did they expect?! They basically bowled her over in their mad urge to grab their products before everyone else! Gah....
The next incident is an ID story. 3 foreign men (yes, this is important for this particular tale) came to the till with some age-restricted products. Upon the request for ID, turns out they aren't old enough to buy said product. I tell them this and, despite speaking accented English reasonably well throughout the rest of the transaction, they say: "I no understand!"
So, seeing as they "don't understand" I simply point at the product in question and shake my head, indicating no sale. All of a sudden, they miraculously seem to regain their grip on the Queen's English and start cursing up a storm. An old woman who was served before them then offered to buy the products for them with what can best be described as a smirk upon her prune-like face. With an inner sense of satisfaction, I inform her that I can't sell her the products either as I know she's going to supply the men with them
All 4 start shouting then until I just say "look, if it means that much to you, buy the damned things but be prepared to pay my fine and wages until I find another job then!"
**NOTE** I may have sounded harsh with that last statement, but one of the cashiers at work has just been caught selling age-restricted products to underage people, and finds out tomorrow whether she gets to keep her job or not. As such, I am being extra-vigilant with regards to ID.
My final story concerns the bag thief. Personally, I think my store should start charging for plastic bags, because people are just taking bags they don't need out of sheer greed and entitlement. We now have signs on the tills saying bags will be issued based on the size and quantity of the items. Did Bag Thief take any notice? Of course she didn't!
My co-worker, F, rang the Bag Thief up. She gave her 2 large plastic bags, balancing the shopping out. She then put the other bags under her till to stop Bag Thief taking some, as Bag Thief had already indicated she wanted more for other shops. Bag Thief then made a comment about F putting the bags away quickly, and then proceeded to march over to my vacant till (I was on my break at the time) and STEAL about 20 large bags off my pile of bags that I had at my tillpoint!
God knows what she wanted to with them....
So there we are, that was my weekend from hell, if any refined alcoholic beverages are still on offer I will gladly accept!
