SC sends me an email about a door not working at Annoying Site. Ok, Annoying Site is, well, annoying so I try to troubleshoot it. Seems that lots of people are trying to use a door they aren't supposed to (they don't have access to Area X). I email SC back and let them know that the door is working just as expected and preventing people who don't have access from using it. Shocker!! Our system works sometimes!!
SC emails me back and insists that everyone who has been denied has Area X access. I email him back with proof that they don't.
SC emails me back, irate. Noooooo, everyone needs accss to Area X after hours and on weekends! How could I not understand that?? I am such an idiot!! No wonder nothing at his site works when someone as incompetent as me is doing the programming!!!
I copied his manager on the email chain. It's a BIG deal that I copied his manager because 1) SC is a contractor with Company while manager is an employee of Company. Contractors have relatively few rights and employees have a LOT of power over contractors and 2) his manager is familiar with me, knows I'm not an idiot, and knows that I will bend over backwards to help people (manager owes me and coworker Bob several favors for things we've done to fix Annoying Site)
I'm not quite sure what happened between SC and his manager, but a few hours later I got an apology from SC.
