I don't think my current car has earned a name just yet (2000friggin' TANKgrand marquis), but a friend of mine used to own a car which earned the title "Auto Milagro" (lit., "Miracle Car"). It was one of those old, multiple-times handed-me-down rustbuckets that simply refused to die.
It earned the name when said friend was driving home one day. He was headed down a steep hill that the car barely made it up (zero traffic, fortunately), when he felt a slight shift in the car's normal aggregation of sounds, as well as a sudden significant improvement in its handling and behavior. He also noticed that there was a large-ish piece of metal about 40 feet behind the car that looked like it was the right color....So, he stopped, went back and grabbed the cast-off part, and headed down to his usual shadetree mechanic's shop. Having bits and pieces fall off of the car from time to time was nothing out of the ordinary.
He described what was up (the car had been giving him some problems lately), then showed the mechanic the part that fell off.
The mechanic's response translates as "...That did NOT fall off of your car...There is no way it could function without it..." -- He looked at the part, then he looked at the place in the car where the part *should* have been, shook his head in amazement, and gave the car its name
I wanna say the part was a chunk of the transmission (it was big enough to require 2 hands, and it quote-unquote "looked important")...but I dunno enough about these things to really be sure.Last edited by EricKei; 05-18-2010, 07:22 AM.
