  • Very Long Time Ago Suck

Just thinking about my time thirty years ago working in the sweet shop.In general I enjoyed it but there were a few sucky customers/things which happened there.

    Cant make my mind up

For some reason back then we had loads of different penny sweets and some halfpenny sweets, and they were behind glass so I had to physically pick them out and give them to the cutsomer. We woud get people wanting 100 with a long queue waiting.

"i'll have five of those, and seven of those, and.........ooh i cant decide, no put some of the seven back, ill have three of those and four of those instead"

    The not cold enough drink

In summer we would have drinks in the cooler cabinet and obviously with it being hot they would sell out and we would keep restocking but they woudn't be cold anymore and customers would complain the drinks weren't cold enough.

Up a ladder down a ladder

we had those glass jars of sweets right up to the ceiling which had to be weighed on a scale, and those are heavy jars when theyre full and youre balancing on a ladder.
So I would get "can i have *jar up at ceiling" brings it weighs it puts it back. While still up ladder asks customer if wants anything else.No says customer.comes back down ladder.Customer then wants something else back up ladder.

    Arguing about dates

we used to have a noticeboard for cutsomers they would put a note maybe selling something and the date would be noted on it for a weeks time when it was to be removed, they paid for it to be there a week. They would always argue, no the person who wrote the date got it wrong it shouldnt come down yet.
Customer "why did you answer the phone if you can't help me?"

Are you sure it wasn't the bitter shop?
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

You weren't wearing a skirty by any chance?

Oh, we had that. Most of the time people were good about it. If we took a sign down, we kept it for a week or so (and they usually had six-week runs), and every so often they'd pay to have it back up in the window - and by pay I mean they put something in the charity box. Only had one semi-sucky about this.

What's a skirty? Same thing as a short skirt?

When SCs are involved, very likely.

Ah, another reason Bren does NOT wear skirts (or skirtys, as Raps called them lol). Customers like that are just SO much fun...Note the sarcasm.

I must admit, that was my first thought to. But I tell you, it's because it's a stereotype.

It depends on the skirt, too. You get a skirt that's drapey enough, you can climb trees in it!

*is a big fan of long flowy ankle-length skirts* *also wears exercise pants under the skirts, for EXACTLY this reason, just in case*
