YOU LOSE! GOOD DAY SIR!
Yesterday I was called to the phone to speak to a 'gentleman'; henceforth known as Dumbass. He wanted to report that he'd had a vehicle accident in one of our parking lots. The way he described it, and the location, made it sound fishy to me. Not to mention, this had happened 2-WEEKS AGO and he was just now calling us. Oh, he hadn't gone to the police, his insurance, or gotten an estimate on the damage. He said he had gone into the store and the manager had given him our number, but he had lost it.
I decided to check video footage and boy, was it entertaining! Instead of backing-out of the space and turning, then driving forward and away, Dumbass pulled straight-back; so far back that he hit the pedestrian crossing sign at the start of the row behind him. A yellow sign on a 3-foot high yellow concrete post. Did I mention it was YELLOW? Then he gets-out of his car, looks at where he hit, KICKED IT, then drove around to the front of the store to complain.
Of course, he's citing department of transportation regulations to me; something about that road signs have to be such-and-such a color, break-away posts, etc. He claimed our signs 'blended in' with the road, and that he could not see it in his blind spot, etc. Basically, he's blaming the way our signs are BUILT for the fact that his car was damaged, not because he hit it. And he expects us to pay for repairs! We're private property; we could construct our signs from lost souls and gummy bears if we so chose!
He really doesn't have a leg to stand on; and how do we know him kicking his car (which is also on the video) didn't cause the damage?
He just sounded so...sure of himself and entitled on the phone; I can't wait for the claim to be denied!
