A lady calls and asks for restaurant suggestions. I give her the names of some restaurants and she asks if I have ever eaten at any of them. I tell her no but I have heard they are good. She gets snippy and asks why I am suggesting places I have never eaten at and she wants someone who has "personal experience" and "expertise" on the restaurants. Nobody was able to give her what she wanted so we suggested she wait until tommorow and talk to the concierge. "I WANNA GO OUT TO EAT NOW. I NEED SOME ADVICE" I told her to try the places I mentioned and she said again she was not eating at a restaurant based on what I heard, she wants first had experience..........deciding where to eat is a very important decision and she needs advice immediately. When nobody could give her what she wanted, she stormed out accusing us of ruining her vacation. She came in the next day, complaining that her kids were crying because they were promised a restaurant and ended up eating TV dinners because we wouldnt help her decide and she hopes it weighs heavily on our conscience. What a bitch!

Weighs heavily on my conscience? Hell no, you ungrateful harridan! I work retail, crushing the hopes and dreams of all the little children who come through my doors is my job!

WOW. JUST. WOW. It's your fault that her kids had to eat TV dinners because she was too spineless to make a decision on her own? WOW.

So you ruined her vacation. And you are thus a bad person. And yet....she had to have firsthand knowledge and opinion of a bad person about local restaurants in order to avoid TV dinners?

I've heard of avoiding making a decision, but this is ridiculous. No, no...in the words of Adam Carolla, this is recockulous!

You should have suggested McDonalds. Everyone has eaten there once in their life.

You ruined her vacation? Wow, I would think she would give a tip for it. Sounds like the sort of person who loves to bitch and moan, so I'm sure she's thrilled.

Of course, you do realize if you had suggested a place you liked, she would have hated it and come to find you to yell at you for ruining her vacation. You know that, right?

Actually, the proper response to this sort of attitude on this sort of person is usually "Wow, no wonder he left."

It's a matter of opinions, what some people think is good, others may think is terrible. So even if you were able to suggest a restaurant (from first hand experience), she probably still would have found a way to complain about it.

Been there! The guest hated every recommendation I made for local places (Mexican? Ew!/Already ate there and didn't like it./Not in the mood for Chinese./etc), until it got the point that the only other places I could think of were the chains like Applebee's and Outback.

They didn't like that either. Finally, I asked them where they ate when they were home.

Them: "Um... Applebee's, Olive Garden, and places like that."
Me: "And where do you think people around here eat, if you don't like any of the other places I've suggested?"
                      Them: ...
Me: "Yes, Applebee's and all the other chains. The suburbs here are like suburbs anywhere, and if you don't care for those other places, chains are all you have left."

I'm reminded of the line from the "I am a Desk Clerk" thing -- yes, I do know where all the best kosher vegeterian Mongolian barbecue restaurants are located. It's what I do, after all.

Yea I have had people ask for restaurant suggestions and every one I suggested, they didn't like. They tell me they want to experience what the locals experience. Just the other day, a lady asked for a good place that delivers pizza and I said Papa John's. She says "Where do the locals order from?" I told her I was a local and order from Papa John's all the time. She acted all offended that I suggested Papa John's.

Don't you get it? You're supposed to tell them a place that they will like, the fact that you know nothing about them has nothing to do with anything. Did your manager refund her money and make you apologize?
