  • Things won't change if you just stand there

Oh boy, I really can't wait for October, then I can say "We haven't been able to do that for over a year" to these customers.

My store (up until last October) used to be able to run peoples bills, so phone, power, council rates etc, but now we are on a different system and can't, people never learn.

Female comes to my counter and unfolds her local council rates bill (oh dear, this is not going to go well).

Me: I'm sorry, you can no longer pay those here, we are just a wee post centre now, not a post shop.
SC: But I've always paid it here.
Me: We no longer can do that for you. The Post Shops are all closed now, but will be open tomorrow at 10am.
SC: Oh, but today's the last day I can pay it before I get charged a penalty
    Me: ...
SC: It's like *reads bill* $40, I've always paid it here. I was going to come in earlier today, but then I decided not to because I could always pay it here.
Me: We haven't done these since October last year.
SC: Oh, well you should have better community notices about it.
Me: Well we did have notices up for a month before we changed.

Now, at least she didn't through a hissy like some customers, but if the fact that you have to go to a different location (2 locations in one mall, post service went from one to the other) doesn't give you the hint that things could be a little different, the fact that I TELL you should let you know that I don't need to hear the whole story about why you are now going to have to pay a late penalty. That, and I'm pretty sure she has had more than a day to pay the rates, why did she have to wait until the last day to find out she can't pay with us? Other bonus is she didn't blame me for her having to pay the late fee
Began work Aug as casual '08
Ex-coworkers from current place of work: 26ish
Current co-workers at current place of work: 15ish - yes he just hired 3 more casuals
Why do I still work there again?

people like that really get to me.

The fact that she'll have to pay a fine is her problem for not paying it sooner, not yours and the whole thing about her saying there should have been better notifications about it is stupid because as you said you did have notifications a month before it happened and i get the feeling with how the general public is that you could have massive posters up all over town and you'd still get the same problem.

      Everybody say it with me

A lack of planning on your part does not--

Oh, hell. Forget that. Let's just all get drunk again.
Each one of us has a special place just like the Evergreen Forest. Enchanting, sparkling, and perfect. And, like the flowers that bloom there... fragile.
