  • This is not starbucks.

I work at jack in the box. For some reason, Jack has decided to cross over into a quasi starbucks. We offer Iced Coffee. Its watered down and tastes like crap. This woman was at the wrong store, apparently.

Me: Hello, what can I get you?
C: Can I get an iced coffee?
Me: Okay, caramel, vanilla or original (i have no idea what "original" tastes like, for the record).
    C: Caramel!
    Me: Okay, anything else?
C: Can I get an extra shot of caramel?
    Me: Sure.
C: And what kind of milk do you use?
    Me: ..2%
    C: Do you have skim
Me: No, we only carry 2%.
C: Well, how much milk do you put in there.
Me: (i made the mistake of using the wrong verbiage here) I just throw a shot in.
C: well can I get an extra shot.
    Me: Sure.

I think she was a little dismayed when she saw me make it and I just dumped everything in there and shook it around. We're not starbucks. However, there is one across the street that'll make your double caramel, double shot skim-milk water kind of coffee drink the way you like it. I'm surprised she didn't bitch when the price went up for extra syrup.

Then theres the people who complain that our flavored teas/coffee are too sugary. Its syrup, guys, come on.

And the people who complain that theres "vanilla in the strawberry milkshake." Well, yeah. Its vanilla mixed with SYRUP. You really think they're going to fork out for a machine that premixes, or actual strawberry/chocolate ice cream?

As someone who once worked for a dairy company, I feel I should point out that 2% milk and skim milk are two different names for the same thing. 1% milk is also skim milk. Fat free is technically skim milk too, but usually not called that.

Non-skim milk is also known as homogenized, whole, or 4%.

Err... in which grocery store do you shop?

In Canuckland, in all the grocery stores, you have the following choices for milk:

Homogenized (Or whole milk), 2%, 1% and Skim.

Yes, I know 2% and 1% are technically partially skimmed. And I'm sure the industry has their own terms for them. But I'm pretty sure 90% of the public doesn't CARE what the dairy industry calls it, they go by what it says on the milk carton at the supermarket.

Ditto Polenicus... except at least in the Deseret region and Northern Nevada region there is also the option for Vitamin D milk (at least I'm pretty sure I've seen it here... I know I saw it when I lived in Nevada)

California has Vitamin D (or whole milk), 2% 1% and fat free as far as I know. I drink 1%

Vitamin D Milk and Whole Milk are the same thing.

I prefer whole milk myself, but will drink 2% in a pinch, 1% if I have to, and skim not at all. Blech...gross.

I love the fact that at The Bar all we have is whole milk. So if people want to get picky with their coffee or any of the few drinks we have with milk, they are shit out of luck. (For coffee we also have the half and half creamers, mind you.) You want skim milk with your coffee? Go down to Duval Street, take a right, and walk four blocks to the Starbucks. Or one of the other coffee houses in town. This isn't one of them, this is a BAR. So shut the fuck up.

Not to mention the fact that people are sooooo scared of exposing any part of their body to the sun that they've got it slathered up with 5000 SPF sunblock that the sun can't get through to help their bodies make it.

Or kids spending way too much time indoors on the computer/playing video games. There's a reason rickets is making a come back.

It's called the "sunshine vitamin", but it's not like you've got to go stand in the sun for hours on end. Most people, 10-15 minutes a day is plenty.

That's what I was thinking. I was just looking at the gallon I just finished. And it's a New Mexico dairy. (We've got plenty of dairies around here, so I can be a locavore with my milk, too.)

Come to think of it, I think almost all cow's milk in the US is fortified with Vitamin D.

Same here. I just much prefer the taste of that butterfat! Skim milk has always reminded me of milk-colored water.

And now I need to remember that I need to go get some more milk tomorrow.

We have sell coffee in our store. We make air-pots of coffee as needed with a area with milk/half&half and sugar, etc. No I will not make if for you unless you have some physical disability and you ask. Second, no we do no make it fresh every X minutes like bucks. You want that go down the street ad get it, but you will also pay more.

I grew up on 2%, but now I drink skim because my husband is lactose intolerant. He gets sick if he drinks even 1% but is fine with skim, and I want to keep having milk, so that's what we have.

Now if I could just get him to stop eating cheese and ice cream whenever he feels like it and then complaining that he's sick after...

Hear, hear! I drink a gallon+ of water a day anyway so I can keep talking on the phones -- when I get home, i want REAL milk, not "water that doesn't taste as good as plain water"...

My Dad did once freeze a gallon of Skim solid once...it actually separated out into greyish water and milk solids (they looked like little platelets). The latter was perhaps 20% of the total volume >_>

Also, his doc once told him NOT to drink skim due to the added sugar. I don't recall it tasting sweet in the slightest, so I suspect that the guy had no clue what he was talking about...

vitamin D helps in the absorbtion of calcium. So it is good for people with osteoprosis.
