  • You sir, are banned from here.

I am only typing of what I know of the situation, being as I only got to deal with the ass on the phone for a total of maybe two minutes. (And I wasn't on the clock, and forgot to take advantage of that. Damn.)

So.. a girl rents a room for her and her boyfriend for his birthday. While they're out celebrating his birthday, her purse gets stolen. Rather than calling to tell us OR calling her credit card (Which would flag hers as stolen when we checked her in so we wouldn't be able to..) they continued to party.

When they check in with J, they explain that her purse was stolen. Without HER ID, J isn't comfortable changing the name of the room to the boyfriends, because he can't verify who she is (And our luck, he'd change it and the real girl would come in.). The guy throws a fit, tells J he used to the a manager at the H. Inn, and he would "NEVER treat a customer this way."

Strike numero Uno for Sir Douchebag.

J sets them up with a second room under the males name, they take their keys and go upstairs. (I do believe J also cancelled the girls room at this point, just to be safe).

Man calls down to the desk, asks for a 3 pm check out, since they're checking in at 3 am, and 'that would be fair.' J explains nicely that we can't do that, our latest check out is noon, and he can easily put him down for that. Man goes off again, saying to J, "I was the manager at H. Inn in C-ville and I wouldn't do THIS to a customer either. We ALWAYS gave them 3 pm if they came in at 3 am!"
J explained that H Inn is NOT our hotel, and that we can't do that, we only offer noon check outs, man grumbles as he hangs up, but does take it.

Now, after throwing a fit for a late checkout, you would think he would wait til then to check out, yeah? Nope. Dipshit checked out at 9 something in the morning. Comes down, throws a fit in the lobby as he's checking out with P about this and that.. and she handled it well, but he did this in front of a lobby full of guests AND the head housekeeper. He even called P a liar (Which just KILLED ANY Sympathy he may have gotten from Manager.)

    Strike two for the Douchebag!

My manager (mommy!) worked the afternoon shift yesterday. P had told her about the douche, mom read in the logbook and J had semi explained on Facebook what happened. I got with mom to hang out at work (Cause I know she likes company) and while she's fixing the lock on the door so this weekend won't be hell on me and John, I am answering the phone and helping things run smooth (not on the clock though :P).

Phone rings, I answer, and go through through the speil. (Thank you for calling Superhotel in smalltown usa, this is Superhotelworker, how can I help you?)

Douchebag: "I want to speak to your manager. What's her name? Kim? Or give me your corporate number, because I am NOT happy and I'm not dealing with this crap or yours today."
Me: *thinking who the hell are you?* "My managers name is Denise sir, and she'll be back at the desk in just a moment. I can take a message and pass on your name and number for when she gets back."
Douchebag: "Fine, you going to take my name and number?"
Me: "I can but you'll have to give me a mo-"
Douchebag: "Just let me talk to her! I know you called H Inn and that's slander!"

At this point, my mom is back at the desk, and I happily pass the phone to her and retreat back into her office.

All I hear is her side explaining that she "Will not stand for him calling her desk clerks liars. Yes, She (P though she didn't say this) called H Inn, but only to verify the facts, as we are usually VERY nice to other hotels staff. No Sir, if you don't stop swearing at me and talking over me I will be hanging up."

He apparently didn't, cause she hung up. That was the first time. She had the same sort of conversations with him, and the third time he called back, she said, "I want you to know, that I will be talking to my Night AUDITOR tonight, and one I get his side of the story, I will be taking whatever action I see fit. Until then, I will NOT be taking the charges off your card, and I don't' promise they will come off. But please be aware, you are no longer allowed on my property." And hung up.

YAY! She did talk to J too, and now that she has his side, I'm sure the guy will be even less than pleased. Muahahah.

And while mom was annoyed about that asshat, we did get SOME humor last night. One either side of our front door, are windows. They are as tall as the door, but do not have the bar in the center that you would push to get out.

A guy comes RUNNING down the stairs and slams right into the right window, not the door. You hear a *THUD* and him literally bounce off, holding his head.
I died, cause I could see it on mom's camera. It was funny! He went back up to his room and as I'm taking towels to a guest for mom, I watched him do the same thing to the back door. But, the back door has no side windows to do that too, he just didn't push on the door.

    AcK: Side note!
He did tell P he hadn't worked at the H Inn for a while, and the call to the H Inn confirmed THAT much, but also confirmed to us, he was never a manager either..

Pretty much. All we did was ask to talk to the manager D there, and verify who he was. he was never a manager.

        Dearest Douchebag,

I do not think that word means what you think it means.

The guy is an idiot. Calling the other hotel to see if he was telling the truth is not slander, not even close. Had anyone on your staff outright called the guy a liar to his face in front of others, maybe, but still not likely. Legal definitions are never that simple and straightforward. Me calling him an idiot for getting the definition of slander wrong would be closer to slander, and that still wouldn't hold up since I wouldn't know him from Adam to be able to point him out. Slander and libel are both forms of defamation. Slander is spoken, libel is written. The legal definition of defamation in the U.S. is as follows:

"Any intentional false communication, either written or spoken, that harms a person's reputation; decreases the respect, regard, or confidence in which a person is held; or induces disparaging, hostile, or disagreeable opinions or feelings against a person."

On so many points Douchebag's cry of slander fails, but the most important one is that the hotel workers would have to KNOWINGLY LIE about him to cause this. If they are telling the truth, or even if they are saying something that is not true but they don't know it, it is not defamation, and therefore not slander. Hell, even if you harm someone's reputation or do any of the other things listed, if what you are saying about them is TRUE, it is not defamation/slander, unless you believe it to be false and are, in our mind, intentionally misrepresenting what you believe to be the truth. Make sense?

ASKING if someone used to work some place and what position they held cannot possibly be construed as slander, unless worded very slanderously, such as "Did that child molester Douchebag ever work for you? You know, the short, fat, unbathed fellow who likes to fellate cats and eat baby bunnies? Was he a manager at your fine chain?" THAT would be slanderous.

I know I am going out on a limb here, but I don't think that the hotel staff worded their question to H. Inn about Douchebag quite like that.

                Still A Customer."

Nope. P asked, "Do you know a Mr. Douchebag? He says he was a manager there at one point, and we want to know if we should still honor a friendly hotel rate with him."

The obvious question, of course, is if they give such better service and love you so much over there, why are you here? And the answer, invariably, is that you're full of shit.

I've actually asked this of would-be customers making ridiculous demands and claiming someone else does it all the time, and it's very very satisfying when you get the inevitable catbuttface. It's even better when you call the place, and the guest RUNS away before you finish dialing. And best of all is when the place tells you not only is the guy full of shit, but he's been banned from their property and they had to get the police to forcibly remove him.
