The other day, a customer came to the service desk wanting to cash a check. Since there wasn't enough in the till to cash much of anything, I had to see if any of the checkers tills had pickups so I could loan the money to the service desk till.

I got the pickup and the customer told me to cash his check while I was putting the money in the till. He told me that he'd been waiting and he wasn't happy that the FEM was waiting on other customers at the time. I recorded the pickup and loan in the computer. The FEM explained to the customer that I was getting money to cash the check but I don't know if he got the check cashed since the FEM was the one who actually served him.

We had an employee try to cash his PAYCHECK at the store recently.

That is STRICTLY against company policy. Besides, we don't have nearly enough in the registers to cash a payroll check. Store manager even got involved to see if there was a way we could do it - but that would have made it a 3rd party check (another no-no), and since we'd just opened, none of the registers even had HALF the amount needed.

if customers want cheques at my work (which I have not seen AT ALL, most people either have a company card or will pay cash and ask for a duplicate receipt) they have to go to the front desk for them.

They are welcome to pay for their groceries with a cheque, just can't cash them. We used to be able to cash them but that was many years ago.

We have a similar policy, complete with signs posted at both entrances that all checks must be cashed at the Customer Service Center.

It really makes sense as it doesn't hold the lines up and the individual cashiers don't have to encounter issues with them now, as all checks must be handled by a customer service manager or MOD.

Employee paychecks are the only kind my company can cash. When I worked in the store I would ask the usual suspects on Friday morning if they needed to cash checks (usually the same people each week), keep a list and call them in order as I had the money in the register. A few people would just leave their check with me, and I'd hang onto it, cash it when I could, put the cash in an envelope and then call the person to come get their money.

Where I work, employees can cash their paychecks and union checks at the store and not be charged a fee. All other payroll checks, meaning from other businesses, get charged a fee and the bigger the check the higher the fee.

we have a money center. Our one CSM gets soooo mad when she has to give us loans.

at one of my old jobs we could take payroll checks but they had to spend at least 10% of the check.

though this is the place that went out of business too. (couldn't afford payroll checks & paid us in cash)
