Over the past days I have come in to contact with some very interesting diseases. One man had to leave and demanded a full refund because he and his whole family was getting a rash and the hotel was dirty. According to him his best friend died because he stayed in a dirty hotel room. He did not really cause too much of a fuss probably because the manager ok'ed his refund but I found out today that he is trying to get compensation for a doctors visit.

Tonight I some one told me that they were gravely ill and they needed milk to get better. I told her I could not get her milk from the kitchen as I am not authorized to give out any food. I told her where to get some milk but she just told me "never mind". What illness is cured by milk?

It's called Cookie Monster Syndrome. It's a horrible disease. You turn blue, grow fuzz. Your voice gets gruff, and you have an insatiable desire for cookies. :-P

All kidding aside, I'm unaware of any illness cured by milk.

    Me: Gentoo.
Coworker: Ahh. A Masochist. I thought so.

When I learned how to weld, I was told that if I ever got arc eye (I think it's called in English), a good first aid was to drip whole milk or cream in the eye. They may have been welding or were snowblind .

Umm, speaking as a person who got a chemical burn after staying at a hotel, I can see why he would complain about a rash and wanted a refund/compensation. I have very sensitive skin, and the chemicals they used to wash the sheets left a nice, itchy, mildly painful burn on my legs. I didn't complain, however (I know I probably should've but my company was paying for the stayover, I used the room, next time I'm just bringing my own sheets!)

I am not a doctor, but it sounds like Entitlementitis to me. One disease, many cures. The cure is whatever the afflicted person wants.

Milk can be an excellent cure for heartburn... so long as it isn't skim milk. You need the fat to counteract the acid in your stomach. For the same reason it is also an excellent buffer for some of the harsher medications that some people may need to take (that's why it says "Take with milk or food" on the sides of some prescription bottles). If I was at a hotel that had a continental breakfast, I might think of asking the desk if they can get me a glass of milk before I go wandering around a strange city at night for a convenience store that sells pints. If they told me no and the nearest place was too far away I might just tough it out without the milk.

Wouldn't turn into an EW over not getting the milk, though.

It can help with ulcers as well, I think, but then again, there's OTC medicine for that.

                  Maybe they had ricketts?

I'd go with the antibiotic. I lose ny stomach contents from the harsher ones.

Just don't forget that milk can inactivate certain antibiotics...

(The tetracyclines are chelated and rendered insoluble by divalent cations, including calcium, so it's a good idea to avoid drinking milk with them. Fluoroquinolones (Cipro, Levaquin etc.) are also inactivated by calcium, but it takes a lot more. A glass of milk won't do it, but a couple of Tums will.)

I was thinking ulcer or acid reflux / heartburn myself.

Granted, they don't help me (long history of acid reflux caused by a hiatus hernia) because I'm lactose intolerant LOL

That's actually a common misconception. Much like drinking water after eating a spicy chili pepper, getting the afflicted what he or she wants will only make the entitlementitis worse. There is no known cure, but a strict therapy of everybody ignoring the temper tantrums has worked wonders in the 2-45 year old age range. Unfortunately, everybody means everybody on the planet, and not all of them agree on our treatment regimen, preferring to, and I quote, "Give him the damn discount already!"

Interestingly enough, the best way to get the chili pepper burn out of your mouth, I hear, is drinking milk. (I swear, I did not pick that example on purpose. I just now realized it.)
