  • Oh What I Wish I Could Say

July 4. I work alot of holidays. Most of the customers think they are being nice by saying "oh I'm sorry you have to work today." Well lets see my job has me there so I can help the customers. So they call say sorry but they are the reason I'm at work if they would not call then work eather, not have me work or send me home early.

Well I was being nice and trying to make small talk with the guy as my computer was moving slow. So I ask him how his 4th is going. He tells me "alot better then yours as I don't have to work" Now all I can think of is rude much. Oh and I have all of your info I know where you live.

I hated that more than anything.

If you were really sorry, you wouldn't be shopping on a holiday, and people wouldn't have to work.

Tell 'em that you love your job and you can't imagine having a good holiday without going to work work. It shuts 'em up when I do it- of course I actually love my job so I don't have to fake enthusiasm, but I've encouraged a few people who hate work to do this and it seems to go ok.

But really, it's fun to watch them get confused. "Buh-- buh-- job-- you-- work-- like? I AM ERROR. SYSTEM SHUTDOWN."

J and I got some groceries on our way back from his parent's house on the 4th and I overheard someone bitching at the poor clerk about how unpatriotic for working instead of celebrating the 4th. I just don't get people, if that guy wasn't willing to work the holiday then that SC would be unable to get his precious beer.

Then why is the moron in the store buying something?! If nobody went to the store on a holiday, then managers/owners/etc. wouldn't be open! I'm even willing to bet that the customer didn't even think twice about wondering if said store was open before he went.

"You're absolutely right, sir. Thank you for helping me see the error of my ways."

Put beer behind counter, lock the register, and walk away.

Had a customer say to me on the 4th "It's a shame you have to work today... But then again here I stand which is the cause of your working"

Me "I was going to say, c'mon man you're in here"

OH the customers. I do like my job... ok the customers realy suck sometimes. The other day the phone where down for about 12 hours. Need I say I never had to take a call. What we could not figer out is why they did not shut down? So they had us doing some busy work. After about 4 hours of busy work and talking with my friends. It did get kinda boring and I was missing the calls... I can't belive I said that!!

But I was there on the 4th because I asked to work I mean hey I was getting double time. That is realy going to help. We had lightning come through our cable line. Killed the TV, DVD surround sound system, computer, and my router. Need I say I got another surg protecter that will also cover my cable line!!

Hey, don't be hard on yourself. You're among friends here.

Vent away. We're here to listen. You don't have to like your job or the customers.

I real do like my job. I have alot of friends there. As the saying goes its not the work but the people there. We do have alot of nice people there.

But you know I get a customer that calls in... and he is VERY hard of hearing. So I have to screem into the phone just so he can kinda here me. I just want to say to them if you can't hear me then have a family member or a friend call us?? How hard is that???

Then you get the customer, I'm sorry your item is sold out for the season and I can't put it on back order. Customer ask more about the item and then asks me to put it on back order. AAHH did they not hear me... Say again I can not put it on back order. No the customer makes a small stink about how they just got the catalog or what.

Time and a half, it's fairly quiet, we usually close early, plus an extra day off during the week?

No, I didn't much mind working holidays.
