So, I was loading an illegally parked car at an apartment complex when the owner came running out.
The usual spiel ensued,
"I didn't know I couldn't park here, I don't see any signs, I didn't know I'd get towed, I'm from out of town, my Mommy said I was a special little snowflake, it's not my fault I can't follow rules, yadda yadda yadda........."
Well, the fun part starts when he's informed of the $60 drop fee.
"I don't have $60"
Well, I'm sorry Sir, but if you cannot pay for the drop, I'll have to tow it
Guy yells up to the apartment he was just at, "Anyone up there got $60?"
"What?"
"I said, Anyone up there got $60, If I don't pay this guy, he's going to take my car!"
"He can't do that!" comes the reply.
I inform the guy that, yes, yes I can. And that I don't have to have cash, I can do credit cards if anyone up there has one and would like to come down, that request was, to put it lightly, denied.
Finally, one of his buddies yells down a suggestion
"Just drive off the truck! He can't stop you" Oh brother, not this again
"I'd advise against that, Sir" I say
Again, the guys on the balcony try to egg him on
"Just get in the car and drive off!"
"I can't man!" The guy whines, "I'm on probation! I get a disorderly conduct and it's back to jail!"
Well, at least he's smart enough to be thinking ahead..... I tell him he has 15 minutes to come up with the money, or I have to leave with the car. He pulls out a cellphone, makes a phone call, and his Mom drives over from the other side of town to pay for it.
Yes, she called him a dumbass, but did thank me for not calling the cops and sending the poor boy back to jail.
And life continued on.......
