  • Keeping Your Privates Private

Seriously, has TMI lost all meaning. Two couples come into my store, at least three of them were perfectly nice. The fourth gal though....

First, She comes into with a little music player blasting it as loud as possible. We already have a radio playing in the store and I hate the sound of two different songs playing at once.

Second, I am asked where the nearest pizza place is. I tell them that it's three blocks down that way. She corrects me with "You mean three blocks up that way. God, it's uphill." Whatever bitch!

Third, the other girl in the group is trying to figure out if they have enough shampoo to last the evening. She asks obnoxious girl if she took a shower that morning. Obnoxious girl loudly states "Hell no, I overslept. I barely had enough time to brush my teeth and wash my privates."

Silence ensues, not only from her friends, but from the other customers standing behind her. I show no reaction and continue ringing up their purchases.

She leans over the counter and says "Are you offended? Everyone has privates." Her friend tells her to stop being vulgar. She then tells me that I am being a prude. The other girl tells her to cut it out. With that she storms out grumbling about people trying to "censor" her. Her friend apologized for her behavior as the rest of the group left.

I still have no idea how I became the focal point of her rant.

She was probably looking for a reaction out of you and when she didn't get one, she got all pissy

Ah: The Friend. I love those people.

Many a drinking party I have ruined when the purchaser's Friend ran his mouth just a bit too far.

I wonder if this is in the Canonical List of Sucky Customers yet...

This is a pet peeve of mine.
For those of you who are not aware, as a really shocking number of people, including many of my friends, seem not to be:
UP the street means the address numbers go UP.
DOWN the street means the numbers go DOWN.

I know, I know, it's really complicated. Here's an example to demonstrate:
If we are at 1545 x street, and you want to go to 2140 x st, you go UP the street.
If you wanted to go to 880 x street, you go DOWN the st.

This has been a public service announcement brought to you to prevent future embarrassment and/or the personal ire of an infinite number of monkeys.

ah, but infinite monkeys, what about towns/cities where the roads are not numbered numerically?

Is it down to weston street along oxford road or is it up?

Easy. You were the only one present she could abuse without fear of retaliation. Her friends were not a captive audience on the clock. You were.

Nice. Dirty, obnoxious, and cowardly on top of it.

I would assume that the addresses of the buildings on the street are numbered numerically, so is the building at the intersection of Weston Street and Oxford Road a higher or lower number.

That's a fair question, but I'm talking about the house/building number. All the streets here in Victoria are named not numbered, but each address still has an individual number.

I would really hate to be a postal worker or delivery driver in a city where houses didn't have numbers.

And you can tell that that girl was deliberatly trying to shock people, because not being shocked meant you were a prude. I think that the only "appropriate"* reaction in her mind would have been to laugh at her for being witty. Because remember kids, vulgar = witty. At least according to the majority of stand-up comedians.

*appropriate to her being pretty much inappropriate to the real world

So riddle me this: In my town, the street numbers go up 100 each block and all start in the center of town. First block east if the center is the 100 block of East Mainstreet and first block west of the center is the 100 block of West Mainstreet. So what if someone is at 300 East Mainstreet looking for 200 West Mainstreet. They head into lower numbers then into higher numbers. Are they going up or down?
