Not in my family. If I tried that with my parents...I'd get my ass kicked, and *then* I'd go to military school

Boy, if I'd ever even _thought_ about pulling this sort of stunt on my parents I wouldn't have lived to see the sun set!

My parents put up with a lot from my brother and I, but something like this and we'd have been grounded for a year at least!

I hate to think about what kind of trouble that boy probably got into tonight.
Probably not much. A kid who acts like that in public probably isn't getting a whole lot of discipline at home.. maybe now it will start.
I will never go to school!

I have seen a lot of comments about how a kid who behaves like this in public is probably the product of bad parenting. What it's more the result of is kids thinking they can get away with crap because of how over the top child protection has become. This is an instance of a kid being a little shit because he knows there are things he can yell that will get his mom in trouble if he doesn't get his way. Remember the South Park episode where they get the adults to disappear!

"shakes head" And the worst thing I did was throw a tantrum so bad that I lost my lunch! Mom wasn't pleased.

But something like what the little troll pulled...makes me glad my "kids" over the years have been of the feline variety.

*twitch* How do kids get like that?! I don't get it!!! I know plenty of horrid children, but I also know the parents/grandparents are to blame. When I hear about a kid doing something like THAT when the mother seems like a normal, proper parent....

This world scares me. It really does.
because they are TAUGHT that they can get away with that ie. being mad and getting the parents in BIG TROUBLE at the drop of a phone call or a word to a teacher at school. children these days have it hammered into their heads at an early age things like good touch/bad touch, stranger danger, stay away from icky Uncle Harry, etc. and to scream and run to a "trusted" adult. it get so drilled into their heads that they THINK they have the power of blackmail.

I fully understand in the OP the manager and security and the Police's reaction. good precaution as enough kids have been snatched out of stores, lured away from the parents, things like that.

Kid is rotten for doing that to his mom. But sometimes kids learn that stuff from other kids and decide to call it out thinking their parents will cave and not call their bluff. . . course it never works out.

Reminds me of the worst little brat I ever saw. I was on a very crowded bus going to the mall. This little boy & his mom got on and the kid refused to sit down and stay down. He kept jumping up and trying to run around the aisle. When his mom tried to put him back in his seat he began screaming (and I mean SCREAMING) "LEAVE ME ALONE! WHEN SOMEBODY TELLS YOU TO LEAVE THEM ALONE, YOU LEAVE THEM ALONE!" and similar stuff....

It went on for the whole ride, about 30 minutes, with the kid getting more and more bratty while his mom made very feeble attempts to shut him up (well, OK, she basically wimped out and let him bounce around screaming). Finally we got to a point where the bus goes around a sharp curve near some railroad tracks and the driver told her she would have to control him so he didn't get hurt when the bus turned. Personally, I was wishing the door would fly open and the brat would hurtle out into the night, but mom managed to get a hand on him for a few seconds. I was never so glad to get off of a bus.

I shudder to think what would have happened to me if I had done that to my mom. The cops would never have found the body.

So help me if my (future) kids ever pull a stunt like this. The consequences will not be pretty.

my younger daughter went around complaining there was no food in the house. CPS comes to the door, and tells me that it has been reported that I have no food and my daughter (older was 19 at the time so they didnt care about here) was going hungry. So I looked at them like they were complete idiots, said come in, walked over to the fridge, opened the door, full fridge, opened freezer, fullish freezer, walked to pantry and opened it, lots of food. They looked confused, then I asked "what DIDN'T you see in there?" huhs from them both. 'see any chips, cookies, cakes, candy, junk foods?' The light came on in there heads. 'Yeah, she's comlaining there is no junk food for her to eat. '
Lucky for me they were actually not idiots.

A cousin of hubby. Her daughter tried the child abuse thing when she was about 11-12 yrs old.

CPS came out to her house and read in the report the different ways DD was being abused. Hubby's cousin looked at her lovely daughter and said:

"Pack your shit and get the hell out of my house"

All of a sudden DD starts crying and says:

"No Mom I don't want to go. I lied"

Funny how that was the only time she ever tried that.
Take this job and shove it. I ain't workin here no more.
