    Heh.

We had a scammer who was was undone because he had his assistant try to do an illegal install (without telling her it was illegal).

She got stuck and called us. When I refused to do what she wanted (because there were notes all over his license record detailing all of the other scams he's tried), she "reported me to the boss" and made sure to cc me a copy. I guess so I'd know what trouble I was in with her boss. The report detailed everything he had told her to do and blamed me for the fact that she was unable to complete the install.

Finally an update! Or, a refusal to update.
We had given this suckstomer a deadline to provide us with a proof that the drive we received is still within warranty - or to choose between two out of warranty options: get a quote for a repair or receive it back (at our expenses, which is an exception we are making). Such deadline is - tomorrow, close of business. Which means that if we had had no communication from him by the day after tomorrow we would send the drive back.

      Well, he replied this morning.

He claims that it is our fault for not having verified the warranty in advance and that he expects us and the regional distributor to sort it out.

Hmmm... no, it was him who sent us a drive different from the one we had agreed a repair in warranty... my supervisor told him so, we wait with bated breath for a new "clever" attempt to dodge accountability.

        Things started moving!

He got his distributor to call us (asking for me personally). Luckily the person who called was a very nice and reasonable lady and we discussed the situation calmly.

Apparently, she had been contacted first to get a repair on the drive that SHOULD have been sent us - she didn't sell them the drive we received (which by the way made her quite unhappy). So apparently the mistake was in sending us the wrong drive, there was no attempt to dodge the warranty - or maybe there are two defective drives... she is investigating now.

        We'll find out soon.

So far so good. I hope it stays good.

News are that the drive we had agreed the repair/swap on (which is an internal drive) has *probably* been installed in the casing of an older external drive to make an internal drive external. Which of course voids the warranty. Waiting for confirmation on this.
Sounds like a Nordic saga. The Externaldrivelied.
