Reminds me of the time, back in 1946 (i.e. years before I was born, but I've heard the tape) when Fred Allen stole Jack Benny's pants, live on the air, in front of a whole studio full of spectators. He'd just made him "King For A Day", and awarded him a whole bunch of worthless crap prizes, ending with a personal makeover:
Fred Allen: "On our stage we have a Hoffman pressing machine. An expert operating the Hoffman pressing machine will press your trousers..."
Jack Benny: "Now wait a minute! Wait a minute!"
[Stagehands forcibly remove Benny's pants. Audience is hysterical]
Benny: (standing there in his undershorts): "Allen, this is a frame...! Where are my pants?!"
Allen: "Keep your shirt on, King."
Benny: "Oh, you bet I'll keep my shirt on!"
Allen: "We're a little late, folks. Tune in again next week..."
Benny: (over Allen) "Oh, come on, Allen, give me my pants!"
Allen: "Quiet, King!"
Benny: "Allen, where are my pants?"
Allen: "Benny, for fifteen years I've been waiting to catch you like this."
Benny: "Allen, you haven't seen the end of me!"
Allen: "It won't be long now!"
Benny: "I want my pants..."
[network cuts them off the air at this point, as they'd run overtime]
It's a good thing they were only on radio. I can't imagine them allowing this on TV back then.
