A man came to the pharmacy today, asking if he could purchase Tylenol Severe Sinus medicine. It contains pseudoephedrine, which means the customer must have ID. I asked for ID and he went to talk to his mother, who then came to the counter. She wanted the Tylenol.

I asked for her ID but told her that I couldn't accept it if the medicine was for her son. She started then, and that's when I knew she was a bitch. She copped an attitude saying it was hers and that she was sick. I tried to explain to her that I was just making sure because he asked about it. That just made it worse. She kept running her fat mouth, complaining about showing ID, etc. I tried to explain to her the log and how it's a law, and that I need ID and she yelled that she didn't do crystal meth.

I stressed to her that I wasn't saying she used meth, that I was just complying with the law. she kept running her ignorant fat mouth saying "Don't say that shit to me," etc. By that point I was shaking. I was literally about to jump the counter beat her face in. I'm not a violent person but she just would not stfu. So I turned around to regain my composure, and told the pharmacist I was not dealing with it. (We are told to walk away if a customer is being like that) So, I left her there at the register, walked to the other register, and continued taking customers.

A tech went to check out the bitch and she DIDN'T EVEN HAVE ID!!!!!! He told her he would have to get the next person, in a polite way. She stated loudly that she wasn't going anywhere, and continued cursing and causing a scene. We called security. Security is useless. They didn't even show up. Bitch stayed at the register for a few minutes, then rolled to the benches, where she kept running her fat mouth, cursing and causing a scene.

She even called someone on her cell phone and loudly asked them if she had to show ID for the medicine. She ended up leaving about 20 minutes after that, once it started raining. I hope she melted in the parking lot. Really though, I hope karma kicks her ass and worsens her cold or whatever was wrong with her. It serves her right for sitting in the lobby for 20 minutes running her mouth when she could've been on her way home before the rain even started.

The only thing that confuses me here is, at where I work, one needs ID for Children's cough medicine as well.

So how does that work with the ID thing? I mean, clearly it's for the child, and the child's ID won't work at all. So, if a custy says "it's for my son," are they refused the children's cough medicine?

Not questioning the following of the law, because it means our jobs are in jeopardy if we don't. But I'm sure that plenty of people over the age of 18 make meth, too.

Good lord!! I know she said she didn't do crystal, but her behavior was definitely in the range of "crazy meth head." And even if you DID break the law and let her use her ID, she didn't even have one? What a moron. So sorry you had to deal with that!

I've heard that they get your ID because they limit the number of medicine packs you can buy at a store, and so if you try to go around to a bunch of different places to get enough medicine to make meth or whatever, then they will be able to tell

This is why I don't even bother with those types of meds if I can avoid them.

I hate having to be in a book or show ID for something because a bunch of junkies ruined it for everyone who truly suffers sinus woes.

Theyve started doing it with medicine that doesnt include alcohol or pseudo-ephedrine. The reason they take your ID is to put you in the DEA database. if you buy too much, it sends up a red flag and you go on a watch list.

\/ too many period. My pharmacist told me they keep the records for, basically, eternity when I bought some bronkaid.

Tis true. They can monitor how much of a drug you buy, and it sends up a red flag, and you can't buy too many in one day.

I really hate that we have to show ID for meds. When I'm buying that stuff, I just want the sniffles to stop and my head to not feel like a concrete block. There's talk about making the meds perscription only in my state. They will have to deal with a very angry Jedi if that happens. And I know I won't be the only one. I live in the allergy capital of the US. Do not put any more barriers between me and the Sniffles-Be-Gone.

On of the medicines in question is guanifesin, the decongestant in "Pucinex". There is another but I don't remember it.

It varies from company to company whether OTC medicines are restricted or not.

I think Coricidin HB is another type of medicine in some places that are questionable too.

I take tylenol 1(with codeine) for occasional tooth pain that can get pretty severe.

Every time I buy some (It's available OTC), which has been twice since last November, I get asked if I bought it before and they ask my name. They don't ask for my ID though. Even if they did, I'd just show it to them.

I'm just scared that one day I'll get there with bad pain, and they'll refuse me...which in turn would result in me going to the dentist and probably get prescribed much stronger meds.

In the US, at least, a parent/guardian and a minor child are pretty close to being more or less the same person, legally. Moreover, it is assumed that the child is incapable of judging the need/taking responsibility on their own. I would imagine that, in this case, the parent's ID would be required, and that the drug could be refused if the parent fails to show ID.

Requesting clarification here. This person who got his mother. Did he look as if he was over 18 and just didn't have his ID, or was this a teenager?

I've never actually been asked for ID for a certain med. Do you have to be 18? I understand the drug thing but unsure about the age factor. I had to sign my name at Walgreens once promising that I wouldn't make any meth.
