Just had a guy try to "make a deal" with me on a $7 corkscrew.
He bought a $13 wine and threw a fit over the tax. Then he threw another fit over the corkscrew.
First he tried to get me to drop the tax. When I told him I couldn't, that he'd have to take that up with the state, he tried to offer me $6 for it. I told him to throw in another $1.81 and we had a deal.
He didn't take it.
Then he tried to tell me I gave him the wrong change (cost: $14.14, he gave me $20, I pulled $0.15 from the penny jar, gave him $6.01), but backtracked when I did the math for him.
He thought he should get $7 back.
His girlfriend came in a little bit ago to apologize for him and ask me to start the cork for her (they don't have a corkscrew, as long as the cork stays in the bottle, I'm legally allowed to "open" it). She rocked, totally apologized for him, and implied that he wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box.
Moral? Don't try to mess with your girlfriend's wine store lady. Especially a wine store lady that used to do all the bar and restaurant change in her head because the restaurant was stuck in the 18th century and didn't have a calculator or computer.
