  • apparently I now work for Parrot Island

I was in early today to give Natasha her going away present since it's her last day (). I was not in uniform; I had my Parrot Island Party Charters t-shirt on, and I was still asked for help. and when told I was not on the clock the wan asked anquestion anyway, and sounded mighty indignant about menhaving told her I was off the clock.

I should've just said no and walked away

I've been asked for help while wearing jeans, sweatshirt and sneakers (none of which are part of the dress code), and carrying 2 Starbucks cups. (I had stopped in on my day off for something and stayed while my friend was on break, so I went to get him coffee before his break started so he wouldn't have to waste time in line.)

(Then again, I did receiving a lot at Store2 and often ended up on the floor at some point wearing jeans and sneakers, anyway. But no coffee cups and I was actually doing work.)

At Rank Aid when I was an employee, but off the clock and grabbing something to eat.

SC: Do you mind if I ask you a question.
Me: Yes I do. *Walked away*

I do. (Where is our shrug smily?) It gets easier over time, with practice. Pretend that you're deaf. Just keep looking around for stuff to do while you're doing whatever you're doing, so it looks like you're not purposely avoiding them, and are just not attentive. Then when they they get in front of you and stare at you, you jump a little and look at them oddly. I've never had this fail. Because, you're not ignoring them. You just haven't hard them, nor any "excuse me" that is meant to catch your attention.
SC: "Are you new or something?"
Me: "Yes. Your planet is very backwards I hope you realize."

I forget which comedian it was that used to do a rant about that.

"Can i ask you a question?"

"Well, you didn't really give me an option there, did ya sport?"

The use of the word 'sport' and the tone makes me think George Carlin.

But yeah, people need to learn what the uniform of a store is and not bother people not wearing it.

I swung by the Wal-Mart where my mom works, and I happened to be wearing a blue polo shirt, about the WM shade, too. I was stopped and asked for directions to a product in the store. I was in a good mood and showed them where it was before telling them that I didn't actually work there.
