  • What the hell was last night?

    No dialogue, shorties.

Customer order 40$ in food. Roughly 4 combos and some finger food. 90% of the way ready (fairly fast, we had four people at the time) she calls me to the window while I'm bagging.

"Can I cancel my whole order?"

I.. uh.. "TEAM LEAD!!!!!!!!" I tell him she wants to cancel her order. He cancels it, gives her a refund. He asks me what happened. Well, nothing happened! I took their money, gave them change, asked what kind of sauce they wanted and proceeded to bag/cook food until she called me over. She wasn't even rude about it.

Then a bit later someone comes through, orders like 8$ in food and says they have a coupon for a free tea. Awesome, its already half way ready and I tell him I'll have his total at the window (i need to see the coupon). He just drives straight through the drive.

We had to have wasted 50$ in food on just those two orders.

Oh, and we don't have hot water in the store. No hot water means we can't sanitize anything. We can't WASH OUR HANDS (30 seconds under hot water "every hour" it never happens, but it needs to be available). My lead called the QA line and they told us to shut down the store completely. No sanitation is a public safety risk. She calls our area manager who rips her a new one for calling QA and says UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE are we to close the store. If we don't have hot water tonight, I'm calling the health department on Monday. No hot water means absolutely nothing can be cleaned properly. Not the utensils we use to cook with, the food storage bins, the prep bowls, the counters, NOTHING.

Why the hell not NOW?!? And report the area manager to her manager! What the CHRIST!

The area manager's boss is the owners. I can't find any emergency numbers to report a store. The only number i have is an office number

This is horrible. Just absolutely horrible. I'm starting to think your job needs Gordon Ramsey.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

Let the local county health inspector know. I'm sure they have a reporting line.

For where I live its here:

Pretty sure your county has a similar setup. The county health inspector outranks even Jack himself.

Thats what i'm looking for but I can't find a single thing. Theres the department of public health site, but it mentions nothing about food safety/complaints

edit: from your link actually, For products produced in California, contact the California Department of Health Services Food and Drug Branch (FDB) Consumer Complaint Hotline at 1-800-495-3232. You think they could direct me somewhere (if theyre open)?

Its probably a local thing. Even if, say, the lettuce was grown in one state but "assembled" into a sandwich in another state I don't think the state of origin would take much interest in it. Once it leaves the state its out of their hands.

Your local government will have an interest in the matter however. A restaurant can be shut down for health violations.

May as well give the 1-800 number a try. Wouldn't hurt to at least try it out.

Yes, the restaurant is likely legally not allowed to function with no hot water. When I was a teacher we lost water one day and had a major problem because we couldn't serve lunch to the kids, and schools are under same rules as restaurants with the local health department.

8 am Monday, get on that phone.

And I love Gordon Ramsay. So much.

The store closed down, but now its back open. I have no idea why its back open because we still have no hot water.

Yah, you need to get a hold of the health inspector. Your boss isn't all with it and deserves the fine they are going to receive.

In CA the health inspector is usually contacted through the county(in ours it's the Health and Human Services) If you can access your current inspection, that should have a number to contact them.

It does. Like I said, its a Monday-Friday number. No after house/weekend/emergency contact

Money changed hands? Or did the manager just go ahead and open it up?
