Today a coworker and I had this Prince Charming of a man to deal with. Story:

I was working on register audits since we were seriously behind. I walked to her register because we were relatively calm. I mosey up and let shut off her light and told her I was doing her audit. She had Prince Charming as her last customer. Conversation as follows:

PC-Prince Charming(more like a**hole but I'm trying to keep it PG)
B-Myself
M-My poor coworker

M-Hello. Did you find what you needed?

PC-Where are we?

M-You're at Wal-Mart

PC-No, we're in America. Speak english. Blah, blah, more racist crap.

M is trying to figure out what she did wrong with this guy while he's still spouting more racist crap at both her and me.

B-M, stop talking and get him out of here.
I call another manager and tell her what this jerk is doing. She agrees to stand by in case it escalates.

PC pays and says hello to my coworker all nice and polite and she greets him back. And he responds with "you need to do something about this attitude over here." I was about to get all ghetto because he has yet to see bad attitude from me. My coworker was in tears and I was shaking so bad and resisting the urge to scream at him to GTFO!!!!! I was fuming!!!

I talked to other managers about it but all they said was to stay calm and and ring the person up and be above the crap but it's very difficult when you're the one being attacked. I know we aren't supposed to speak about races but me and my coworker are of the south of the border race and we seem to be the targets in that store.

I know that we really should defend ourselves but our store will NOT have our backs with this stuff. We cannot stand up to them because they will look for a reason to fire us. I'm still angry about it. All of it. I'm just....gah...Grrrr!!!!!!

Where I work, there is a very nice Korean person, well, born Korean, raised American. He doesn't have an accent, he is perfectly normal.
Kids will come through the lines and be all "Wong tong oh herro, I wourd rike some chicken and lice."

If us, the fellow employees, would get fired for even calling this guy Asian (an old school nickname of his), why do the kids get away with it?

I just want to smack the lot of them. It's so rude, I was raised not to even consider race. People get confused all the time because I refuse to describe people, even casually, as "You know, Greg, the black guy down the road" and such.

That's bullshit right there. NO ONE should be made to tolerate that kind of offensive abuse from any customer.

If someone were being a dick like that to me I would either: A) Find another employee to handle their transaction B) Tell them to get out of the store and threaten to call the cops if they didn't

There is absolutely no reason to put up with crap like that from anyone.

I have never ever understood why it's OK for a customer to be rude to us, but wrong for us to be rude back. If they don't like taking it, they shouldn't dish it out.

Oh geez, I see this SO much! Once I had a group of Mexican gentleman in my line and as I was waiting on them, they were chatting to each other in Spanish. An older woman in line behind them decided to 'take up conversation' with one of them and said "You need to speak English, you're in America. That means you're an Englishman now."

Um . . . he's a what?

He just gave her a blank stare before he turned around again.

Gahh, this makes me really mad! I don't usually have the nerve to confront people in public. My sister didn't hold back, though! There were a couple of ladies in the grocery store who were wearing Middle-Eastern clothing and speaking in their native language. Some bitch got in their face about "this is America, speak English" and my sister (who is usually very shy) spoke up and told the bitch to mind her own business. The bitch huffed off and my sister told the two ladies she was sorry they had to put up with that crap.

I will never understand why people think they have a right to butt into someone's private conversation and demand they speak English.

I know in the states that harassment applies equally to coworkers and to customers. Discrimination may as well. Well it applies equally well in my state at any rate. The hard part is getting enough proof to stiffen some of the managerial types spines so they will actually do something about it and to have that evidence ready if you need to go to a labor board to force more equitable working environments.

This gets me these racial intolerant people scream about how these people should intrinsically know English and think they're obligated to speak it AT ALL TIMES here in the states. When their ancestors are all immigrants who were completely ignorant of the culture and language of the indigenous peoples.
