This may not sound like an SC story, but bear with me and you'll see why it is.
I had ANOTHER flat tire today. Apparently my 10 year streak of good luck when it comes to this is completely over. I ran over some sort of screw that jammed into my right rear tire and made it go flat while I was parked at work today.
Upon seeing the flat, I broke out my emergency air compressor (this being before I saw what had caused the flat), only to discover that I couldn't use it. The lighter socket on my car is only held in place by a plastic retaining ring which broke a couple years ago. I glued it back in place with some Mighty Putty (RIP Billy Mays) but it didn't work very well and broke free after only a short time. Still, it wasn't a huge issue as long as I remembered to hold the socket in place while unplugging something.
Which of course meant that the last time I unplugged something, I forgot and the socket came all the way out and the wires popped off. Now, reconnecting the plugs is easy, but to get the plugs requires removing the surrounding trim panel, which is a massive pain in the ass (I've done it before), so up until now I haven't had the motivation to do so. Of course, now it was too late.
So, I said screw it, I'll just put the spare on.
Oh wait....my emergency jack handle/lug wrench is missing.....
See, a few months ago a guy came into my store in a panic because he had a flat tire on the highway overpass 1/4 of a mile away, and his own handle was missing for some reason. He offered me $20 to borrow mine because he said the cops were about to tow his ass away. In retrospect I shouldn't have, but I accepted. Turns out that instead of renting my handle for $20 he was actually buying it for $20 because he never returned it.
Hence now I was completely screwed thanks to some asshole SC.
No good deed........
Thankfully, I have some awesome coworkers. Angelica/PortuguesePrincess and Focker stayed and let me use their emergency tools to change my tire, and even pitched in to help do it.
So they rock, but that asshole can take the jack handle he "bought" from me and.....well, I'll leave the rest up to your imagination.
Now I need to remember to hit up the junkyard for a new jack handle and lug wrench.
(Yes, I know, I shouldn't have paid that guy any mind because in restrospect it was very very sketchy, but that's hindsight for you.....
)
