It's been a while since I've posted here thankfully. Not because you people aren't lovely because you know you all are, but who wants Sucky Customers right?
Anyway, these customers the other day have been the first in ages that have really warranted posting about. Apart from one, which will go in a seperate post as they're not related. A table of 7 come in on a Saturday afternoon. It's visibly busy and they have no booking. They do a bit of huffing and puffing about waiting for tables to be sorted for them but I wasn't too involved in that part.
I get to their table after giving them a couple of minutes to sort themselves out because they had young kids with them and offer them some drinks that I can go prepare while they get to grips with the menu. I like this method of doing things as I get to be busy for a short period and can get on with other things while everything's cooking. They order drinks and ask about meal deals. I explain everything and go do the drinks.
The order goes into the computer as planned and then I'm told by the kitchen that we have run out of one particular starter. Out of the 7 meals ordered one has ordered that starter. I take a menu and apologise and ask if they'd like to change. A great huffing and puffing begins so I excuse myself for a few moments to let them think without crowding them. When I return....they wanted the ENTIRE order cancelled. We're talking about £60 worth here. I was completely stunned and had to go get a manager to cancel it. Apparently there were some frozen left over and if they were that desperate they were welcome to have it but it would have to be cooked for longer if they were prepared to wait. I venture back out to tell them and find that half have gone and one is left to pay. She tells me to 'not bother' about the order as they're going elsewhere. She pays for the drinks they had and by this point I'm grateful even for that.
It seems strange to call them sucky in a way as it was our fault we ran out...but it was one starter. Hardly worth uprooting the kids to go somewhere else. It was mainly the attitude and aforementioned huffing that made it worse though. Ahh, at least there's a place to vent.
