  • Irritating weekend at the hotel

Since I am now working my accounting job full-time, I work at the hotel from 7am-3pm on the weekends.

Most weekends are uneventful, but this past weekend:

    * Breakfast ends at 10:00 AM. While I understand people coming in late, DO NOT YELL at me for putting breakfast away at 11:00 and then complain to management that breakfast was not available.

    * I understand that the breakfast room is a cozy spot, but we have to clean it up. I had guests sit at the tables until 2:00 PM which make clean-up (vacumming the floor mainly) difficult.

    * It amazes me how so many people miss the basket in the pool area used to collect used towels. I see them thrown in FRONT of the basket, ON TOP of the basket, BESIDE the basket..everywhere except IN the basket.

    * I was outside sweeping under the canopy I saw this couple dump all of their trash in the parking lot. How classy. Double points for the young women I saw throwing their trash as they were driving by me as I was picking up trash.

    * Also some self-entitled people think it's okay to park under the canopy at all times. The parking lot is literally a few feet away but I guess that's too far for them to walk.

If I couldn't find a matching plate number, this is when I'd call a tow truck.

you work mornings? I'm so sorry! <3

See, the canopy thing.. the other auditor kills by parking his car there (Mommy Manager says we can). And.. we let bikers park their bikes on the sidewalk on either side of the door under the canopy, so we can watch the bikes.. but um.. that's if they ask.

and the breakfast thing I solve very easily: There's a sign behind me that says Continental Breakfast from 6-10. There's a sign by my coffee machine, which you've been too more than once, that says the same thing and I told you that when you checked in. You had ample opportunity to learn the times, and no, I'm not dragging anything else out.

With us, when the reg card prints out, it's a full 8 1/2x11 that prints out. One part of the page is filled out by the guest, the other part is given to them with their keys. It contains information like breakfast hours and the username/password for the free wireless internet. Then again, I don't know how well this works. I don't work mornings so I never know if guests are too stupid to know when breakfast ends.

Our coffee ends at 10...if it's busy we'll keep it out until 11. I'll have guests checking out at noon wanting coffee and complaining that it's not there. We left it out an extra hour after we said we'd put it away...you had an extra hour to get it!!!

I've had the opposite problem. Hotel has a coffee bar associated with a chain named after a Battlestar Galactica character to provide all kinds of liquid goodies. The person staffing it doesn't start until 7am. She usually opens it at 6:30am because she's so nice however. Nobody thinks this is great. Instead there are of complaints by people that wake up earlier for flights, early drives, because they can't sleep or etc. And they never complain in a productive way, like a comment card to the general manager or the restaurant/food manager. Instead they just huff and puff and grumble. So their complaints go pretty much ignored. And smiling faces abound on the people who take advantage of it during the posted hours.

I don't know how much success either any of the bigwigs would have in getting anybody to work earlier anyway. Most of them have to get their kids off to school.

When my company stays at a hotel (mostly 1 star or below....) if they do serve a breakfast we normally can't get it. Not because they don't keep it out long enough, no... but because they don't put it out before we have to leave. I can't blame the hotels for it, I know when I have to get up. I know when we have to leave. I also know that we can't expect the hotel to put out breakfast at 4am.

Now the comfort suites that did have breakfast out in plenty of time before we had to leave? There was such a big difference in preformance that I hope that we get to stay in another one! (My only real complaint was their channel selection. HBO while playing Final Desination... not something I wanna watch while looking over bacon, eggs, and waffles...)
