  • Now who here remembers the "You will get me a man"? Culture clash?

Well today, I wasn't working at Subway at all. I happened to overhear this little argument from a middle eastern man as I passed by.

SC: "Get me a man, I refused to be served by a woman."
Manager: "Sir, I'm sorry, we don't have any male employees come in for another hour or so, if you'd like to wait."
    SC: "Get me a man."

So I hear this, then walk around (still in my non-work clothes, ie, crocs, street clothes) and then I shout, "I'll help him!" I walk up and tell him that I work here but I'm off the clock until tomorrow, so I helped him and guided him through the line. AT the register, he gave me this response:

SC: "Well in Pakistan, the places are all manned by men!"
    Me: "Sir, this isn't Pakistan."

Yeah, technically did some free work but I just walked right on off saying, "I just happened to overhear it".
    Kangaroo Squee!

Shame that no one pointed out that he was in the wrong shop and that the dating agency was down the road
We are the willing, led by the unknowing, doing the impossible, for the ungrateful, we have now done so much, for so long - for so many, with so little, we can now do anything with nothing!!!

I had a similar situation when I was a manager at and Arbys. We had a customer who refused to be served by a black person. Before I knew this I came from drive thru to serve him, I thought he was just an asshole who didnt want to wait in line and did not care to argue. When I found out his situation from the counter girl after (she was angry as she thought I was not backing her up by enabling him, she did not know I was unaware of his prejudice) I made sure everyone on my shift knew him and not to give him special treatment. If a black person was all that was working the counter then no one was to come from another station to serve him. Finally one day he erupted and yelled at the counter girl, so I was able to throw him out and ban him.

I agree, should'a just let him sit and rot if he refused to be served. Or better yet, tossed out onto the sidewalk to rot.

Isn't "being served by a woman" exactly what people like that want??

            I third it.

I know you were being helpful and taking some grief off your CWs shoulders, but you shouldve left him be. If hes here, he needs to get use to the fact that *dramatic pause* women are people too...

As a woman, I must admit I'm not adverse to the "men should serve" concept. lmao... kidding, of course.

I would have acted like a fellow customer and just mentioned this wasn't Pakistan and to GTFO if he didn't like it.

Seems the SC failed to notice that since she's the manager, the male employees obey her. No doubt his head would explode.
A lion however, will only devour your corpse, whereas an SC is not sated until they have destroyed your soul. (Quote per infinitemonkies)

Sometime in the early 90s, I was leaving a ship docked in Bahrain (an island off the east coast of Saudi Arabia) to go home. At the airport, there were two desks at the area you had to get 'cleared' at, in order to get to the part of the airport where the gates were. One desk was run by a male, and the other by a female. The desk managed by the male had a Loooong, long line, filled with men; the desk run by the female had no line.

I was familiar enough with the local customs to know that one line was for boys, and the other was for girls. But, I didn't really feel like waiting for a half hour or more to get into the gate area, so I went into the woman's line. The woman herself was surprised at first, and then had an amused smile during the rest of the transaction. I looked at the men's line, and no one was irate at seeing me there: they all had the same smile of amusement for the 'silly foreign guy' who didn't know he was in the girl's line.

But badaa-bing, badaa-boom, and I was done. And I'd do it again!

This got someone thrown out of the Olive Garden I used to work at. One and only time I saw someone get thrown out by the manager. They weren't even being loud about it, or making a scene, but the manager actually grew a spine and threw them out for being racist pigs. I had a lot of respect for that manager after that.

Nobody in the place would have served them anyways. You should have heard the conversations going on in the server's ally. Wow.

I'm so glad that no one got offended, that is SWEET, getting out of a line like that.

If I were behind him in line, I'd have to say "I WANT A MAN. I WILL ONLY BE SERVED BY A MAN." And then I'd wink at him and maybe say, "Come here often?"

I remember posting a "get me a man" post a year ago or so. I worked at a crafts store, and we didn't have any men at our location at all. We either gave the guy the option to buy from us or not. After demanding special treatment, I told him that when I'm working in a fabric store in Pakistan I'll get him a man, until then he can grow a pair and suck it up. I know it's a cultural thing, and I completely respect that. Kinda like how I feel with religions. Have your own beliefs all you want, heck, tell all about them because I am very interested in learning about other religions and cultures, just don't push it on me in my own home.

Actually, I was lucky there were no men around because even if there were I would refuse to get one.
