    ...I got caught stealing!

A week or so ago I remember LP, Self Scan cashier and MOD talking to a SC at one of the Self Scan when I came in. later I asked the SC cashier what happened. The SC tried to steal by putting two items on top of each other and scanning the bottom one, but the weight kept getting set off on most of the items. When the cashier would go over to fix it the SC would toss both items back in the cart. In the end, they were told to leave or deal with the cops. They left.

A few days later, a complaint comes in from the SC above. They had never been so embarrassed ever at the horrible treatment they got, oh BTW, they are also are a single mother, have bills to pay, have kids, have car payments, have rent, had to go to the Dr. the next day(not joking), etc. In all they listed 25-30 things everyone else has to do at some point. Because of this horrible incident, they claim they will never come back to our company, or any other companies owned by our parent company, unless we meet their demands.

Their demands, a public apology posted in store for all customers, monthly $50 gift card for at least 1 year, and my favorite, guarantee that no matter what the situation, no employees of any level can ever contact them unless they ask for help(AKA let me steal what I want).

They did receive a follow up call and letter, kindly telling them to deal with it or get lost. Yay for spines!

Spineful managers? How on earth did that happen?
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

OMG! Corporate told them to get lost and didn't reward them???

I might pass out from shock.

      That's AWESOME!!

Wait, they demand all that because they were caught stealing? Boooo! If that happened to someone I knew and they wanted to demand all that crap, I'd smack them.
Good job on the spiny management.

Am I the only one thinking the managers grew a spine only because the demands were just that incredibly unrealistic? If she simply asked for a $50 gift card and that's it, would the scammer have gotten something for her "trouble"?
A lion however, will only devour your corpse, whereas an SC is not sated until they have destroyed your soul. (Quote per infinitemonkies)

Good point, but I've gotten so used to hearing stories about even more blatant thieves getting their asses kissed by corporate that I couldnt help but be surprised that they told this one to get lost.

That almost sounds like it belongs over on the Customer Complaint Letters Thread in the Games Forum!

Well, I started laughing at the "monthly $50 gift card for at least 1 year."

                    I agree there . . .

That SC isn't sorry they did the deed . . . they're sorry they got caught.

Why were they trying something that fancy? Just plain old sleight-of-hand, wave it over the scanner while covering the barcode and throw it in the bag. (No, I'm not condoning this). You know, Jackdaw and I were just discussing people scamming the system, and whether or not they'd be less likely to actually carry through with a complaint.

From what I heard they found a cheap item, say a box of scalloped potatoes put a steak on top and scanned the potatoes and put both on the belt. The extra weight kept tripping the scales though and alerting the cashier that a item failed to scan and was rejected.

The only reason corporate didn't cave is because the SC demanded too much. If she'd kept her demands to an apology and a single giftcard, I'll bet you anything corporate would've shown you just how spinless they are.

I assume this method would fail for the same reason the other did: the weight sensor would detect an unscanned or unknown item and would sound the alarm.
