  • Well that was uncalled for.

So. As you know, I have to ask people questions to make sure they're the right respondent for the study I'm working (for example, someone with a big enough computer network to support, to make sure they'd be appropriate for a "large business IT infrastructure" study). Onto the SC - this was on friday.

    Versa: Me. Hi. Hello.
    SC: Sucky Coont.
    R: Receptionist

I'm dialing the phone, and as it's ringing the receptionist flags me down.
R: Hey, Versa, can you run an errand?
SC: *picks up the phone* Hello?
Versa: Hi, is this SC? This is Versa from Field Research. I was just calling you because you filled out a survey for us online, and based on your answers, I was wondering if you could come in tomorrow at X time.
    SC: Sure!
Versa: Okay, I just have a few extra questions that weren't in the online survey. Actually I am SO sorry to call YOU and put you on hold, but someone is trying to get my attention. Can I put you on hold for literally five seconds?
    SC: Uhm, sure.
Versa: *I put her on hold.* Sorry, I was dialing when you asked. Does that errand need to be run RIGHT now?
    R: Yes.
Versa: Okay. *Takes her off hold* I'm really sorry about that, but I'm being told that this needs to be taken care of immediately. Would you mind terribly if I transferred you to someone else to go over the same thing with you instead?
SC: *BITCH VOICE* Well, I'm NOT gonna be stoked about it, but if that's what you have to do.
Versa: I am SO SORRY for the incredibly minor inconvenience you are facing in the process of us trying to give you money. Jesus. Okay, give me just a moment, and I'll transfer you to L.

L took the call and told me later when I got back that SC did not qualify for the study. So, seeing her name on my list the next day, I thought I'd be nice and give her a second call and try to get her into something different. People usually really appreciate it, because everybody likes money.

    SO TODAY:
    *Ring ring*
    SC: Hello?
Versa: Hi! It's Versa at Field Research again.
SC: Oh yes. You're the one who called me yesterday, put me on hold twice, then disqualified me from the study.
Versa: ... Yes, that's me! I'm really sorry about that, but I was thinking that maybe you could do this one instead, since it didn't work out?
    SC: When is it?
    Versa: Thursday at 7:30.
SC: *Very bitchy on purpose* Sorry. That just is not going to work at all. I'm afraid I'm just not available.
    Versa: Okay, thank you.

OH MY GOD. Way to get a huge fucking attitude, woman! I realize it can be considered rude of me to have to put her on hold, but anybody who you treated politely and explained it was an urgent issue should be more understanding. I put her on the Do Not Recruit list for being unnecessarily nasty - now she's never allowed to participate again.

Oh come now. It wasn't unnecessarily. She had to get back at you after you maliciously disqualified her from the study. Yeah, I'd be annoyed too, but she's all of a sudden decided that you're the devil incarnate.

So what was the sky-is-falling errant you had to run?

Documents that had not been sent over to our main office were due there three hours ago. They were kind of critical documents to their project, and it was not my responsibility to send them originally, but when something needs to get done right, get done now, and get done RIGHT NOW, I'm usually the go-to person because I'm great under pressure.

You might be great under pressure, but given that the pressure oughtn't have been there in the first place, I'm not impressed with your co-worker from pulling you away from a call.

            Agreed.

Versalia: I have some questions. Don't you have a fax machine? Scanner? Courier service?

Yeah, let me fax over 300 pages faster than I can walk two blocks Courier service was supposed to take it and never came, and hence, shite, meet fan. Fan, shite.

also agree. if they're already 3 hours late will it matter if she waits what... 5 minutes to let you finish first?

I just follow orders, misguided as they may be. I'm not on trial here >_>

Oh yes, we have some MAJOR M in M. I imagined a trial as adjudicated by GK.

                      "How do you plead?"
                      "Uhm... err... 713?"
                      "... How do you PLEAD?"
                      "Uhm... ... ... ... Fall... catalog?"
