  • I don't know why the bank didn't just cash it!

B/G - When we receive donations to our PO box, they are processed at the site and deposited on line there and then a copy of the check is sent to us.

We received one such donation today with a note from the bank stating they could not deposit it. It said we needed to verify the funds with the donor's bank first.

Did I mention the check was for 100 BILLION dollars?

Seems like a simple procedure to me.

Of course the bank said the account was closed and the guy is dead so they will be calling the family to find out why they are using the account or if they threw out the check book and someone else got hold of it.

    So close though!!!

The closest I could come was 1 billion:

            or 1 trillion:

By converting it into British currency and using the largest, most efficient £2 coins (which are 12 grams each), I came up with a requirement for 375,870 tonnes of coins.

You'd need about 100 American-sized freight trains to haul that around.

                  In a similar vein...

An idiotic gang attempted to scam the Bank of England out of 3/4 of the currency currently in use around the world.

To do so, they invented the £500,000 note.

Yeah, they actually thought that wouldn't raise any eyebrows.

Edit: found a pic of the forged notes -> http://www.flickr.com/photos/twindx/1706720663/

It also corresponds to about 50,000 tonnes of pure gold at fairly recent gold prices. That *still* requires about 10 or so heavy freight trains to move it.

I so want that in my spare room, so all I'd have to do is walk in, grab a stack, walk out, and spend.

Whoever thought it would be funny to do this, needs more then just a reality check.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.
