  • It's NONE of your BUSINESS!

Oh man, did I have a doozie of a woman in drive through at the bank today. I'm still REALLY new to the bank (under 6 months) so I'm still learning the "normals". Oh Saturdays we run with 2 to 3 tellers, and I was helping drive though while she was on a Lobby customer.

I greet the SC with our normal spiel and ask what I can do for her today since all she sent in was a check. In a very VERY snotty tone she tells me to "Just deposit that into his account".

    Ok! No problem.

I pull up the name on the check, and notice right away that while there was only one person in the system with that name, the account's address did not match the check address. Normal stuff, I just need to verify I have the correct account (even one letter misspelled can bring up the wrong account)

Me: Excuse me Miss, is this person's address currently in (Our city)
SC: YES! geeze, Just deposit the damn check.
Me: I would love to but the addresses aren't matching up. Has this person ever lived in (another state's city)?
SC: That is NONE of your bussiness. Just deposit the F***ing check!
Me: I'm sorry, I really need to make sure that this is the right account...
SC: YES! They are currently down there searching for a job, but LIVE up here. Geese, it's really none of your bussiness!
    Me: I'll be right back...

I figure the person has switched their account mailing address down there to where they were "just looking for a job" and deposited the check and sent the SC on her way. I gave the other tell a "Um, WTF" look and thought I was done with that one for the day. If you know better then that, the you win a cookie!

    *Phone rings*
Me: Good Afternoon! (more of the spiel)
SC: Yes I was just there, and I was just harassed about this person's account and something about the address.
Me *sighs*: Yes mam' that was me. The address on the account was different from the address on the check you gave me...
SC: SO WHAT? I doubt there are any more (Names) in your system!
Me: Even so, I just want to make sure this person get's their money.
SC: This person LIVES in (Our city) but is down in (Other state) looking for a job!
Me: I understand that. Where in (Other state) is this person stay...
SC *cuts me off*: THAT IS NONE OF YOUR F***ING BUSINESS!!!!
Me: Mam', I understand this but if this person isn't staying in (City in other state) this I'm afraid that we just gave them this person's check
SC: Well, Maybe they are staying in that city, but it's still none of your bussiness!
Me: I'm sorry mam' I just need to verify it was the correct...
SC: You need to just learn to deposit the checks! My GGGOOOODDDD I'm NEVER been harassed by anyone like this before!

*sighs* I'm to the point where I just want to get off the phone. It's going no where. I'm sure that it's in the right account, and this lady just has a corn cob shoved up her lady part's. No wonder that person moved out of state. With this SC as a parent, I would have too.

Me: I'm sorry you feel that way mam'. The check is in the right account
SC: It better be. It's just NONE of your Business where that person lives! So RUDE!
Me: I'm sorry you feel that way. You have a great day
    SC: Yeah F*** You! *click*

Wow... wonderful woman there. I guess it's not the first time she's flipped out on someone before. Sorry that I want to make sure that the right person gets their money. Stupid me for doing my job ya know?

You do your job the way you're supposed to, Idiot Woman bites your ass off for it. You make a cock-up of the job and deposit the damn check into the wrong account because she was too fucking stupid and rude to realize that you were TRYING to do your job the way you're supposed to, ditto.

Either way, you always lose with morons like these. Take two of these to help you chill, and a side helping of for Ms. Rude Snot.

well thanks from me :x I don't feel precautions are taken seriously enough with bank employees (no doubt from being worn down by people like this). I would be utterly overjoyed if I was put through 20 questions in order to ensure that my money was safe.

same here; i'm glad when people ask for my id along with my card. people these days spend too much time worrying about questions they should be happy to answer, and instead answer the ones they should ignore.
        look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

...And of course this la...er, customer...would be the first to complain if the check shows up in the wrong account. OP, getting that information IS your business. Kudos for sticking to your guns and not losing it on her! ^_^

Honestly, like with some of the counterfeit money stories, I would have sent this check into security review.. if for no other reason than revenge.

Doesn't get much better in the stores with people paying with check.

I technically don't have to check an ID unless the screen prompts me and I've had more than enough credit cards with different names come through my line. But alas there's nothing I can do when my management is too concerned with kissing the asses of the public.

There really isn't. Like at my bank we are very much overworked. We don't get breaks, we run with 3 to 4 tellers, and we are the busiest branch in the region. At any given time we have a line going out the door. Mistakes happen, too often. When your doing 100's of people transactions a day, it's rough (and that's in a four hour shift). And when one of the full-timer's take a vacation, ooohhhh man, that's a nightmare since we can't get extra hours to cover them.

For some reason, people who cuss at me don't bother me unless they start personally attacking me. That's when I start getting angry. Scream, cuss, be a dick all you want about the company, I won't bat an eye. Start making rude remarks about me and you better watch your back. I have your address, SS#, access to all your money... ok I wouldn't do anything like that but I DO have your address and I know people

Oh how I WISH I could have placed a hold on that check, but it wasn't SC's check, it was their adult child's. As someone who has a bitch of a mother I'd never do that. I can say though if it was her check, I might have had a 7-10day hold placed on that check

That SC is lucky I'm not the bank manager. I would close out her account, sending her whatever money was in it,and explaining why the account was closed, telling her to take her business elsewhere. I have zero tolerance for people that verbally abuse workers.

But I guess swearing at other people is considered polite?

Same here. Aid of Rite policy concerning checks is that the person is NOT allowed to give us their ID or write their license number on the check because it is a violation of HIPAA. If they give me their ID anyway, I check it; but I am, officially, NOT allowed to ask nor allowed to refuse if they don't have one.

My conversation with that customer would have ended the second she started swearing at me. I'm here to help you, NOT be berated and sworn at, if you don't like it, find somewhere else to go. You handled it much better than I would have.

Maybe I'm confused, but if the customer is the one doing the writing, doesn't that essentially amount to them waiving their own privacy rights? Just like if the customer won't get off their cellphone while at the counter.
