  • Irv, stop sending your SCs to my trainees

My cashier trainee got her 1st SC tonight. She had origionally agreed to give the old lady the hangers, which we don't, since we have to buy them, as cheap goods from China don't come with them. So I walked up, found this out, and when it came time to bag the clothes, I said as much. SC got all pissy, saying [Irv's company] gives them away. My reply? That that company is free to pay as much as they want to give hangers away. Cue catbutt face. Then the SC started complaining that without a hanger the pajamas would get all wrinkled. They're pajamas. So I ignore that comment. Then of course, she writes a check, which prompts for ID. Cue even more pissiness and a comment that there's no wonder her daughter doesn't shop with us anymore. Well, if she's like you, I'd be happy to be rid of the both of you. I was so proud of New Girl when she wished the SC a good night in the most cheerful voice ever.

*Big box retail* would give you the hangers your clothes were hung on, because we usually did get hangers with the cheap crap. However, we wouldn't give you extra hangers, even though we'd otherwise "recycle" them (translation: throw them away). Why? Because we sold hangers in our store, and management wants you to pay for them. *shrugs*

We do recycle them; they go back to the distribution center. Our clothes don't come from the manufacturers with them. I hate when customers argue with me over following policy, then bring up what some other company does. Why do I care what [other company] does? I don't work there.

Absolutely. I'd get "But other store does iiiiiittttt", and it'd usually involves coupons or discounts. I'm not going to budge when you try to tell me that *grocery store* would give you a new-release CD at a bargin price when some schmuck of a customer put it in the bargin bin.

Come to think of it, your customer was asking for free hangers - that qualifies as a request for discount. It always involves discounts and freebies, doesn't it.

All (well, most) of our hanging clothes come pre-hung by the manufacturer. A few items, like bigger sweaters and jackets, come un-hung but with the hangers tossed in the box.

I shudder to think what the backroom and apparel processing would be like if we had to save all our hangers for the new stuff coming in.

The cashiers will ask if the customer wants the hanger. Judging by the amount of hangers that come back to be sent back to the DC or get tossed, most people don't want them anyway. Shit, I don't want them. They're too big.

But to compensate, our prices are most likely higher.

Good grief, they were pajamas. Who cares if pajamas get wrinkled?? Old fart probably irons her underwear, too.

                Seriously.

Not to mention that very often the pajama material consists of fabric that doesn't wrinkle easily, like flannel or rayon/spandex blends.

You are not going to get any argument from me on that.
