Another one from my year in the Norwegian army.
Background: I had a job as an assistant at the recreational department, as a part of the job I pulled shifts manning the front desk.
One of the units on base had just gotten a bunch of fresh recruits. Several of these recruits came by our office and wondered if we knew how they could receive mail at base ( basically how a letter had to be addressed to reach them).
Trouble was that I didn't know how it had to be addressed for their unit to receive it (I got my mail sent to our department, much better way of doing it).
There was no trouble with these people, I just told them to ask their scary looking officer.
But there were a few people who asked if they just couldn't have it sent to our department and they could then pick it up.
I seriously wondered whether they had gotten a brain handed out at the supply depot
Of course I had to shoot them down fast and hard before that idea could take any more hold in their head.
What makes a person think that the recreational department will function as a postal office?
We would do a lot of things for our customers, but functioning as a post office? Not happening.
