  • so much for a quiet evening

Just finished B shift. there was 10 check ins scheduled so thought it would be quiet. famous last words.

We just had a pool alarm installed and it kept going off and I was not trained how to reset it. The first time it went off two young kids and there dad where swimming so I went in the pool and was a little a concerned but all the kids were ok. Turns out the sensor in the pool is faulty...at least thats what I think...because it kept going off for no reason...grrr.

Then some guy came in and said he would call the manager because he never ever of a hotel requiring a CC or cash deposit before in his life!!!! He said he stayed at a hotel last week that didnt need one.

Also some women kept calling saying we didnt clean her room....and I had to keep explaining to her she had the DND on her door all day until 6pm.

Then at some point I managed to get my pant leg caught on something dont ask me how and they ripped and I had to walk around with paper clips to hold it together like a dork

The one good thing is I recommended a local chinese place to this guy and his friends vs the chain place and they loved it.

"What difference does that make? I've paid for this room, I should be able to stay in it as long as I want to! Why didn't the housekeepers stay and wait until I was ready for my room to be cleaned? It's not as if they have lives of their own!"

(Can you tell that I've worked as a hotel housekeeper in the past...?)

Did you get told to waive the fee too? We do here. "I've never paid it, so just waive it."

            Hmm.. Nope. Pay up!
Pool alarm.. hmm. Maybe I should be glad we don't have one!
Sounds like fun and I sympathize for the lady with the DND. We get those alot.

              Hello SHW

I'm sure that the guests used to think that all the staff, including the housekeepers, lived at the hotel (in the cellars perhaps). They always seemed astounded at the concept of any staff going 'home'.

Our chain (Hotel 4+2) doesn't require CC or cash deposits, but pretty much everyone else does. If you haven't heard that most places require it, you've been living under a rock for the past couple decades. (I also hate the "I've never heard of motels asking for ID!")

Oh yeah, and I love the people who call me at 8pm wanting towels/change of sheets/etc. I'm the only one there and I can't leave the desk. I have no one to run it up to you, no one to refresh the room, nada. You want 24 hr housekeeping, go someplace a little more high-end.

LOL I get the ones "My room didn't get cleaned."
                  *check sheet* Oh look DNR.

Explain.. insert customer explosion / whine / bitch / blarg here.
I think the hotel / motel folks need to meet up and show the customers why we're the ones in charge. We're smarter. D:

When my wife, sister & I worked at Little America (Little America, WY) we lived in back of the hotel/truck stop...

... they ran buses/station wagons as far Rock Springs (E) and Fort Bridger (W) to get enough staff.

Ya...a lot of guests seem to think we don't communicate between shifts re rates and HK, room types, etc, and try to get away with stuff so your right we are smarter LOL.

RE: pool alarm. it is meant to protect kids and swimmers which is a good thing but the sensors in the bottom of the pool near the drains goes off all time for no reason. Kind of defeats the purpose if its like crying wolf and you end up having to close the pool.

The motel I work at doesn't require a deposit for cash payments, but I work at a very small motel in a fairly small town. However, I know that a deposit is required for cash payment at most other motels around. This is no secret and has been in place for a while. And I don't even stay in motels all that much. But, of course, some people will find a reason to complain about anything

And that sucks about the pool alarm I have to say I'm glad my motel doesn't have a pool
