Would it be too jaded of me to say I'm surprised some consumer-advocate type hasn't put out a big expose about a 6-inch Subway sammich not being a full six inches long?
Because there are limits to the stupidity of the vast majority of people, SC's aside.

Such a story would get laughed out of a news room. You don't have the President's Men here.

    Hmm. Subgate?

just short of 6? pfft close enough
now granted i've seen them cut short - like 5 & 7 but... that close to 6 is close enough.
besides if he gets them toasted or something they'll shrink a lil i think.

Did/Could you have measured the other half instead of going to a third loaf? And if it was too long made sure you trimmed it to 6"?

But yeah, he was a Jerk plain and simple... Probably because he didn't have 6" of his own to jerk. :P

I would have just let him pick which half he wanted. Works with my kids all the time. Everything I learned about Child Psychology in college seems to work just fine on SCs.

From that point on I would have given him the exact Subway required 6 inch formula for veggies. IE: 3 olives, 3 onions, 3 pickles, etc. Then, if he bitches, you can simply state that that's the actual required formula for the sandwiches and you are just following policy. It also helps if you guys have those little diagrams posted above you on the sandwich line in case he accuses you of lieing.

No, Dave T is some guy over at PFB who wrote a screed against California Pizza Kitchen failing to honor his expired discount in August of last year, which he (and others) kept responding to for over a year.

Yup. If the first "half" was too small, then the other "half" would be larger by the same amount, right?

Wow, just read about "David T." What a loser! That thread is over a year old and he keeps replying that he is not obsessed with CPK. He also contradicted himself in a couple of responses. Geez...........

According to sources on the web:

On February 2, 2007 KNXV-TV with the help of the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures, reported that three Subway sandwiches, nominally each 3-foot (91 cm) long, were only 2 feet 8 inches (81 cm), 2 feet 8¼ inches (81.9 cm), and 2 feet 8½ inches (82.6 cm) long. The maximum variance in length allowed in that state is 3%, which on a 3-foot sub is 1.08 inches (2.7 cm). Upon further study, the report showed that the box designed to store Subway's 3-foot sandwiches were only 2 feet 10¾ inches (88.3 cm) in length; shorter than the maximum allowable variance. In response to the report, Subway stated that they are currently in the process of reevaluating their advertising, promotional, training and packaging materials with regard to the specific or implied length of Giant Subs and are taking steps to advise their franchisees to only discuss with customers the approximate number of expected servings and not a specific length of measurement.

Now this refers to giant subs with a variance in length a little more than the SC in my story wanted, but the point stands.

And to clarify something, there were only TWO loaves. The first I cut incorrectly according to the SC. So I cut a second loaf and selected one half of it to make his sandwich with. This half ended up being slightly short of six inches when measured. So I took the other half (which would have to be longer than 6 inches since both halves make a whole foot) and cut it to exactly six inches.

Ah ok. So you did what I thought of after all. The way you wrote the OP it sounded like you had grabbed a third loaf and cut it to exactly 6".

                          Well played in any case.
