Please note, I do not wish harm against people. But this was just hilarious!
Last night was the school Christmas fare, and it was absolutely fantastic. It was such a great night, that it has just reminded me how much I love working in a school. The atmosphere was amazing. UK members of this board will know that we have had a lot of snow this week, and that just added to everything. We had a brass band playing Christmas songs, kids and parents had set up stalls, people were making wishes and tying them to balloons, it was just great. And Santa was going to be making an appearence.
Who would have thought that the parents would be more excited about Santa's arrival than the kids? It was bizarre. They saw Santa walking up towards the school, and they all immediately ran towards the main entrance (where I work). I had about 40 parents, all crammed at the other side of my desk, and to be honest, it was getting dangerous. The office manager and I made a loud announcement, telling them to go back to the fare, and that they would see Santa in a couple of minutes.
Very few moved, and Santa had to push his way through the crowd. The crowd was actually getting larger, because a group of parents had also followed him through the car park. After a few minutes, they finally dispersed, and all I had to deal with were the parents that had followed Santa.
Now, I have mentioned the automatic doors by my desk a couple of times. Basically, my job is to buzz people in and out. There are no sensors on them to detect when people are there. So when they start to close, they aren't going to stop!
Of course, when the parents caught sight of Santa going through the doors, they made a dash before they closed. I sat there, shaking my head at them, when I saw a woman sprinting towards the entrance. It was quite clear she wasn't going to make it before the doors closed.
She hit the door with a massive THUD! And stumbled backwards, falling on the ground in a star shape. I immediately ran around to see that she was OK, while a couple of other parents helped her up. She was completely fine, and simply exclaimed:
"Was that Santa I just saw?!"
And she headed inside.
The print she left in the snow looked just like a snow angel. I am kicking myself for not having my phone on me at the time.
