  • can you hang on?

Me: thank you for calling __________________, how can I help you today?
Caller: hi, can you hold on a minute?
Me: ok, but I can only hold on for 30 seconds, then I need to go help other people

Why bother calling us if you don't plan on talking to us?

While emergencies do happen, you have to remember...SC's think the world revolves around them. Wait..that is not fair...I take that back. The SC's think the universe revolves around them. So your time and inconvenience means nothing. You are supposed to be a good minion, and sit there salivating about the mere thought they are going to grace you with their time ... eventually.

Now back in that cage, and wait for them :P

Seriously, it's bad enough we're so much busier than normal but still only have one person on the floor a lot of the time. It's even worse when management hops on the PA to tell somebody to take a call after it's been paged three or four times because we're busy with people who are actually in the store.

Call me and then put me on hold? Yeah, I'ma help this person over here with a full cart who wants to know where the ass pills are.

Same here, tho I just don't reply. I wait for them to put me on hold, then hang up and just imagine how shocked they are ^_^ If it's a legit call/client, they'll call back.

It was much more justifiable at the pizza joint, but even at a not-so-busy office, I have better things to do than that >_> Then again, I have found that 90+% of those calls are from people we don't wanna talk to anyway.

If I call YOU and you need me to hold, that's different.

            .
I do this as well. If you want to talk, then talk. If you don't want to talk then call back when you do want to talk. I have stuff to do, and don't have time to wait around for people to pull their heads out of their arses.

I, too, have done this at the wholesale club. The second the caller puts me on hold, I hang up. And the managers have backed me up, too. We're not so hurting for business that we need to wait for you to come back to the phone.

I've done this to people, sorry.

I hate doing it, but sometimes I have to. I'll call a business and get "Press 1 for this and press 2 for that, blah blah blah." Finally, I get put on hold for several minutes. As soon as they answer, someone walks up to my desk and asks me a question or something and I have to take a couple of seconds to deal with them.

Why do I make these calls when I'm at work? Sometimes they're work-related calls. Other times I'm calling businesses, such as my doctor's office, that are only open during my work hours.

I had that happen a couple of time at the Bent Staple. I'd give them about 5 seconds, then just hang up. They called ME; if they don't have the time to talk, they can call back when they do as i had a lot better things to do than waste my time on hold like that.

My cell phone service seems to randomly drop calls when I am on hold. About 10/10 times. I blame the phone company anyway...

I had a woman ask me to hold once when I was working by myself at the store. I just said "Okay," hung up, and continued with what I was doing. She called back almost immediately to tell me I was being rude for not waiting, and so I hung up on her again. She never called back, and I never heard any more about it. I did tell my manager about it later, and all she said was that it must not have been that important. She has about as much tolerance for stupidity as I do, so she wouldn't have waited on the woman either.

Well, that's a different matter entirely, I can't blame ye for that ^_^ I'm talking about calls where I pick up on the first ring or 2 (we take all calls live here) and they *immediately* ask me to hold (not even enough time for them to react to a surprise visitor) -- more often than not, in a manner that suggests that it was planned, and that it's a sales call of some kind. The computerized calls that ask me to hold are even better; I don't feel even a twinge of guilt for hanging up on them.
