So on Monday January 3rd I went into work expecting it to be a very slow and relaxing day. I was scheduled my usual 1130 to 545 concession shift, and i thought I was going to be by myself because 1 person running the stand during a slow weekday is really all you need.
Well I looked at the gameplan and saw that there were 2 others with me that day, and I began to wonder why they would schedule so many people with Christmas vacation over. Well the answer is simple, because there is still 1 stupid school district out of school. I prayed and hoped that it would still be quiet nonetheless, or at least not too busy.
Obviously that didn't happen or I wouldn't be posting this story
First 1 of our 3 icee machines breaks down, then the other 2 follow shortly after. Then 1 of our 3 soda fountains has a few sodas go out on it, and then the other sodas follow suit, and eventually they shut it down. The one in the middle doesn't work either. So I gotta freakin walk all the way over to the other side to get sodas. For 1 brief moment it looked like our hot dog grill wasn't going to work either. And now on to the sucky customers.
I had someone ask me if I felt guilty about charging the prices we do, to which I coldly replied, "No I don't." and I really don't give a fuck (BTW this is not a topic about high concession prices, so please stick to the topic, thank you
)
2 kids came up to me and the following conversation ensued.... SK= Stupid Kids
SK: Hey we'd like an icee.
Me: I'm sorry, the icee machines are all down.
SK: We want Coke icee.
Me: The icee machines are not working guys.
SK: Are the other machines working?
Me (very annoyed and irritated now): Guys, what did I just say?! Icee machines are broke! No icees!
SK: Ok, we'll take a soda.
Then in the middle of the transaction, they ask me this....
SK: Can you give us 50 cents?
Me:
What?
SK: Can you give us 50 cents?
Me: I'm not giving you any money.
SK: No, I mean can you let us slide by 50 cents on our transaction?
Me
No! I am not letting you slide! You need to get more money! Are your parents here?!
SK: Um, no.
Me: Well then I don't know what to tell you, guys. But I am not letting it slide. Either you have enough money to pay, or you don't get it.
Cruel? Maybe but I don't give a fuck. Rule #1 as a customer.... If you cannot afford it, you cannot buy it. Plus I was in a foul mood already and was not about to let them get away with this. How many of you would let it slide, because I certainly will not. Kids or no kids, they need to have enough money, and they need to learn that lesson early in life. But this part will make you laugh.
It turns out that their total came to $10.50. 1 kid had $10, and the other had a stupid gift card with $12 on it!
I swear some kids are so stupid. Probably get it from their parents.
And I had many other annoying people that day too, including extra cheery people, you know the ones who try to be funny but they're actually not and you just wanna tell them to shut the fuck up?
On top of everything else, I was off at 545, and the other 2 concessionists left around 330, so I had to constantly keep asking for help because these miserable customers would not stop coming in ( and yes I know I am complaining and that they help pay our paychecks, but again I was tired and stressed from the Holidays and was epecting a nice quite slow day)
Then the asshole who was supposed to take my place didn't show up and was not answering his phone. I finally told them to please take care of the problem, and they let me go home.
As I was clocking out, I find out why our theatre was so dam busy with only 1 school district out and people back to work.... The next closest movie theatre in our area had a power outage and had to shut down, for how long I do not know, and we got most of the business. Lucky us
Maybe I should've found the fuse box and done the same thing
