  • Enjoy your moldy food!

    Berry Hell

Had a customer come through my line with some blueberries in one of those boxes with a flip-top lid. This whole package is translucent, so I started turning it over and looking it over because these packages have a nasty tendency to get moldy FAST.

SC: I don't have time for this! -snatches blueberries and the rest of her stuff and walks off-

Me: I was just looking for mol-- -cut off by her leaving-

Enjoy your moldy food and food poisoning!

    Live Long And Prosper

With part of my tax return, I bought a Starfleet pin (TNG version). It's always on my jacket or shirt where people can see.

I was having a bad day, when a bearded older guy walked up through my line.

He sees my pin, says "Live long and prosper" and gives me the hand-signal too.

I love being a female Trekkie.

Don't you love those good customers who know just what to say to brighten your day?

Oddly, I can do the hand signal somewhat with my left hand, but just about not at all with my right hand. I'm right-handed.

The only other thing I do with my left hand (get our mind out of the gutter, kids!) is shoot pool. Which I do exclusively left-handed. Can't shoot pool right-handed to save my life--it feels completely unnatural, like trying to throw a ball with my left-hand, or batting lefty.

No, I have no idea why I shoot pool lefty.

She did it in "In a Mirror, Darkly II" but off-hand I can't recall any other instances.

I've been able to do that sign with both hands since I was about fourteen. I even developed a variation on the middle finger that I like to call the "Vulcan Bird".

                Ditto on the hand-signal.

As for doing things with your unnatural hand, my sister is right-handed like me, but eats her dinner with her fork in her right hand and knife in her left, whereas I can eat it both ways.

RE: Berry Hell; And guess who, amongst her and other customers, that may have not had such an attentive cashier and end up opening moldy berries at home, is going to come back screaming the loudest?

RE: Vulcan hand signal; I'm right handed, can do it easily and perfectly with my right hand, but with the left can only go so far as to keep the forefinger and middle finger together, while moving the ring finger and pinky away, struggling a bit to do that, and ending up with a gap between the ring finger and pinky, that is about the same as the gap between the midle and ring fingers.

                  .

Since I got into "Star Trek" late (1989 - as a senior in high school), the hand gesture was more familiar to me as Mork's handshake when I was growing up *heh* Same gesture, just tilted on its side.

I figure if a coworker can wear her numerous Twilight buttons all over her lanyard I can wear a single
                              pin.

I was wearing it on my red coat (command colors, since it's a TNG pin! I had to be reminded of that when I was panicking that it would make me expendable), but now since it's nicer out I'm wearing it on my navy Malmart shirt.

                              So I guess...
