  • they are here to serve

Guest: Dave, you are the 3rd person I have talked to and I AM PISSED. I called earlier because I was sitting on the beach (it was 74 degrees here today in case you were wondering) and I saw employees wearing shorts and flip flops and one guy looked like he was wearing a bathing suit. The other didnt even have his shirt tucked in. They are at work and they are here to serve. They brought us our drinks but I just felt like they were too casual for employees of a world class resort. They need to have a more serious work attitude. The first girl I talked to laughed at me and the second girl I could tell just did not care.

Me: well ma'am, I am not sure what exactly it is you'd like us to do for you

Guest: I'd like a reduction in my rate

Me: because the guys on the beach were wearing shorts and flip flops?

Guest: I dont pay good money for them to wear shorts and flip flops....for the money I paid, they should be dressed like they are ready to serve

Me: well I can let you talk to a manger

Guest: so you have washed your hands of me?

Me: well I cant approve giving you money back because you didnt like the way our employees were dressed...I'm sorry

Guest: you dont care either, do you?

Me: let me get that manager for you

The manager denied her request for a rate reduction at first but eventually agreed to knock off $50. The guest felt "insulted", cried and said it's the worst vacation she has ever had and she is going to make sure everyone knows it

As long as they can do thier jobs and dont smell and look like something a cat threw up then who the hell cares how they are dressed? Its the beach. Your supposed to wear sandals and shorts!

What was she expecting, full evening dress?

working on a beach surely that is appropriate dress, would he rather they were long trousers and shirt & stank to high heaven from sweat?

I get the feeling that if an A-Bomb were dropped on your resort at the height of the season, fully half of all the worlds EWs would be gone.

As long as they weren't violating the company's dress code, and did their job, who cares how the employees were dressed? It's a vacation, people need to relax a little.

Why do I have the impression that this EW wanted to be served by butlers dressed in black, and at the same time expect them to not smell from transpiration?

My friend works at a resort here in KW, and sometimes she has to serve people on the beach. Her uniform is a polo shirt, shorts, and sneakers.

Every try moving quickly through sand in sneakers? Yeah. Loads of fun.

Now try doing it with a tray full of drinks. On a windy day.

To the vacationer in the original post, *I* am here to serve you, milady. And I'll be serving you a great big load of Shut The Fuck Up.

In all honesty, you really come across like you don't care (probably because you don't).

Would it have hurt to explain that the employees were dressed to serve people on a beach? Or are only the supervisors allowed to use logic and sarcasm now?

If you check into a villa in July that is roach infested and no AC, you have every right to compendated. To ask for compensation because you dont like the attire of the employees is petty and I will not cater to that.

Dave, I think Raveni was suggesting that you cater to this wench, merely that you might have explained things better. I thought something similar when I read the OP, and that it might have helped had you simply said, "That is the wardrobe the management has deemed appropriate for those working on the beach." Or perhaps, "that is the uniform for beach employees."

                              *only if...*

she's on vacation; isn't it about time she removed that redwood from her ass and relaxed a bit?

if you don't like it, feel free to pack up and go home.
