  • No ma'am, I will not lose my job for $5!

Woman calls me up at the gamestore a couple of days ago. Situation is this: She bought her son a copy of Fallout New Vegas for Xbox 360 back in January. She bought no extended warranty on it at all.

Now her little precious wants the PS3 version of the game and she's asking if she can just get a swap out from one version to the other.

Sorry it doesn't work that way. I explain to her that she'd have to trade one version in against the other and pay an extra $18 or so for the changeup. She didn't buy the extended warranty and she's outside the general return window by far anyway, so there's really nothing we can do here.

She prattles on about how it's unfair and "it's the same damned game, what's the big deal?" I stand my ground and refuse. Then she asks if I would be willing to do it as a "one time under the table thing for $5."

    Ok two things:

    1) NO
    2) $5??? Wow you must have totally lost your mind lady. Not that I would probably ever do it anyway but it would take a lot more than $5 for me to even think about doing it.

But this gets better. I shoot her down a few more times and she asks for a manager, so I put her on with my manager and she tries to bribe him with $5 too! She apparently then upped her offer to $10 but was still denied. I think between the two of us we must have told this woman no about 15 times.
"If we refund your money, give you a free replacement and shoot the manager, then will you be happy?" - sign seen in a restaurant

I'm assuming the package was opened and the game played with?

And seriously, what's the difference between the two anyway?

Difference is the platform in which it plays, along with graphic style.

360 is HD games, while PS3 is Blueray. I have both, and while i adore my 360, i like the graphics more on the PS3.

That being said, i would never be whinny and be upset if i didn't get the game i wanted on PS3 and got it for 360. Same story, same everything other than graphics.
Oh yea, and the price for each is usually about $10 difference...59.99 for PS3 and 49.99 for 360...all bc PS3 is blueray.

I have a PS3 and I remember there being extra stuff on the XBox Fallout 3 but it seems that the main game would be the same?

yep. Main game is the same. Some games my have random extra perks for each system, but over all..if you are in it for the story line...you aren't gettign anything different.

Since she bought her son an M rated game, I would assume that her next tactic would be to rant and rave at the manager because you let her do such a thing. And demand a full refund.

Hopefully, the answer will still be NO.

(looks up how much she would honestly pay for difference) lets say $17.98

'Ma'am, I would need at least $20.00 to agree to an even swap.'

Either she pays the correct amount, or she pays a little more thinking she's slipping something past you. win/win

Damn. I was going to post something very similar to this.

My fallback line on attempted "under the table" deals like this:

"Bribes start at $200 and go up from there."

The ratings for games are only for the buyers - not who it is intended for. If she wanted to press this the store could go after her for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Oh, but she couldn't possibly be expected to understand that. It would still be your fault for not protecting her precious snowflake from her horrible parenting.*

This is where she should have gotten slammed with a re-stocking fee...$50 sound right?

I bet she was one of those people who takes back cloths to a store:
salesperson: you are bringing back these shoes that don't fit two months after you bought them, even though they are scruffed up? And you want a full refund? Sure, here at **** ****, we take back clothes no matter how long ago you bought them, no matter what condition they are in!
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

Sadly, I know exactly where they can get away with that.
